I went to AA in early treatment but dont go anymore. would it be ok to go back and get a chip on my anniversery even since I dont know anyone there anymore?

If you want one…go get one.

I know that they can’t and won’t turn you down. I know they like you to have a home group and sponsor…etc. So that you can ‘pass it on’ to the next newbie…but you’re going forward to get the chip is showing them that it can be done too.

Nowhere is going to be too sober but if you judge order and sobriety by the number of arrests, the Tropical Fruits new Years Eve party in Lismore is the best. Usually there are no arrests at all. It is, of course, mainly gay as it is organised by Tropical Fruits but it is well organised. Two big dance areas with different music and laser shows, good chill-out areas and food and most people seem to drink water rather than booze. People come from all over SE Qld and NSW and there are 2000 or so having a good time. By comparison, Byron Bay is a drunken brawl.

Hi! Thanks in advance for your help
One of my best friends lives in a diff state & we don’t get to see each other often but talk almost every day.
He will be 2 yrs sober (in a couple weeks) Looking for gift suggestions??
He works A LOT doesn’y spend much leasure time, but he has just started bowking w some freinds from his AA groups. He loves light hiking, nature walks. (has binoculars etc.)
He has a decent digital cammra
He just started bowling, he bought himself bowling shoes
He is in his early 40′s, works hard at his job!!

Congratulations to your friend. Two years sobriety is a great achievement.

Since it sounds like he enjoys the outdoors, you may think about getting him a camera, so that he can take some memorable pics of his time away from work, enjoying the great outdoors.

Did you mean to say he just started bowling…I couldn’t make sense of that part of your question…?

Congratulations to your friend again, and you are a great friend to want to get him a special momento of this occasion.

Question by EPOX: 7 years sober alcoholic- a couple questions?
now I’m 40- and started drinking pretty hard around the age of 24- you do the math
it feels now in retrospect that yeah I’ve wasted my life- wasted my formative ‘dating’ years (I’m male) still have typical and at times extreme social anxiety issues- it feels at this point it’s hopeless for me to ever find a satisfying relationship- in spite of me toning up well after quitting, having a decent body and all, relatively good looking I suppose- I feel like I’m on par in the dating thing with girls in their 20somrthings, my sortof ‘emotional’ age in terms of relationships- and I look at women my age and just think egad they’re old- most have kids- most are married for that matter… or are divorced with kids… I don’t even want to go there
but 20somethings don’t want to date some old guy- there I’d no male equivalent to “milf”- it’s just “creepy old perv guy”
what is the point then?
isn’t life essentially about finding someone and having a family?
and for that matter I couldn’t see a 20something long term just based on the age, emotional age difference there
it feels a bit more and more like drinking was a sort of time-travel device- where I wasn’t changing while the world all changed..
I’m not sure how to address all of these things
I’m still socially anxious, which is why I’m near positive I got heavily into drinking in the first place
I’ve never asked a girl out- although I’ve had a few girlfriends via hookups etc

First and foremost WELL DONE on your achievement. Secondly, life isn’t just about marriage and kids. You need to be happy inside before you can be happy with someone else. The social anxiety will get better over time. Take it day by day. Best wishes 4 the future
