Question by –: I have a sister who is in AA and she is 18 years “sober” on December 26th. Would you?
She is a dry drunk. She is manipulative, verbally abusive and just plain unpleasant. I am six years sober and my life is really based on truth, kindness and honesty.

Would you, in my shoes, allow her near your child at all if she continues to preach falsely from the 12 step programs, continues to judge everyone who is not in a 12 step program, verbally abuse, manipulate and lie? I, quite frankly, do not want her near my child. My sister physically, verbally and emotionally abused me my entire life. I had told her to keep away from me a while ago, but in the spirit of Christmas, engaged in dialogue with her. Big mistake.

Just yesterday, she e-mailed me that the only reason she spoke to me was so that she could have a relationship with my daughter and my husband. (She’s gay, she’s NOT after my husband, folks.) It seems that she just needs to covet other people’s lives in order to feel like she has one of her own. She actually had a picture of my cat in her home. Weird.
Okay, so I am sober, physically and emotionally. I know that I have a duty to myself and my family. Do I have any obligation to this person who happens be my sister? What so scary about her is that she moved back east to be close to her neices and nephews, but Im pretty sure that she isn’t allowed to see any of them.
More scary? She is a college professor. She actually is teaching your children!!
I mean thath I would like to be certain that if my daughter is visiting my parents, that she is not in town and sneaks in a visit. That’s how much damage I think she is capable of.

Best answer:

Answer by Glo
It looks as though you may have to count her out again. If she is as bad as you say, she is very dysfunctional and you do not have to have a relationship with her. Regardless of the fact that she is your sister. If being around her causes you grief, leave her alone and go on with your life. She will either straighten out or she wont. Just pray she will one day figure it all out. Good luck and God bless****

Question by mossimo: Why would a doctor prescribe an opiate painkiller to a recovering addict?
I feel like I constantly hear about recovering addicts falling off the bandwagon (sometimes of many years) due to their doctors giving them painkillers or anti-anxiety meds to help with procedures and what not. Is this medical negligence or is there really a medical reason for this!?

Best answer:

Answer by Megan
If the former addict cannot deal with the pain, they need the medicine. Obviously, if they are visiting the doctor for this problem than they cannot handle it. Also, not all addicts have something something within their file saying that about their past abuse.

Question by lovemysexyman: if you are a recovering drug addict, does that mean you would also be an alcoholic?
If you were addicted to drugs, does that mean that you would become addicted to alcohol, sex, and other vices? Or is it possible to be a drug addict and be able to drink alcohol and not be an alcoholic? Does being presently drug addicted make a difference verses being a recovering addict? How can you tell if someone is an alcoholic?

Best answer:

Answer by SuperVibrationalEscrow
No. In fact in my younger days when I hung around addicts, sometimes they would get away with it for quite a long time without family and friends finding out because they were either non-drinkers or they would be the type to trust as ‘designated driver’. Because they didn’t get into booze many people thought they were clean. It is very very common for those who are addicted to prescription drugs to steer clear of alcohol.

Question by DH: Do rich people believe if the billions of working poor would just work harder they wouldn’t be poor anymore?
Two ways to help humanity
1)Increase productivity, college, health care, mental help, addiction treatment, small business grants, etc, etc. This takes a very long time.
2)Decrease costs, fuel, water, housing, inflation, taxes, energy, food, transportation, etc, etc.

So, what can be reduced in costs right now. Well, inflation is man made so that would have the biggest impact.
And fuel and manufacturing costs can be reduced by already existing technology.

So what is easier, giving billions of people thousands cash to study real hard with or without diseases, and little family support or stepping on the toes of rich companies by free market?

My conclusion is we neglect the working poor, by spending our energy on homeless shelters, rehab, section8, etc, instead of the source which everyone has already surrendered to figuring out. Charity & nonprofits always set the bar of success at 1 person, how about everybody?
To ‘buy into mainstream culture’ is communistic. ic to not use the answers we already have to solve suffering of billions.
So we need a cutthroat person to fight for free market opportunities to help poor by providing lower costs and job opportunities at the same time.

Best answer:

Answer by skip1960
Honestly I think the rich think if we worked harder they’d be richer. Get the monkey’s off our backs.
