I am going to school to become a substance abuse counselor, but am not an addict, I drink occasionally and am unsure how to approach the question.

The guy has been clean for years but it seems like he would have told me that he had bouts with an addiction to powdered cocaine. I may not have wanted to deal with someone that had that problem.

I know he had a very tragic life, from the beginning, when his dad left his mom, when she was pregnant with him, and later she dies when poe was really young. And then his marriage to his 13 year old cousin, when he was 26. His, alcoholism, gambling, and later dieing at only at the age of 40.
All of them has a noted influence in his works, but I cant seem to grasp it well..

Answer by D J He lived for tragedy. His life was one. He gambled, drank and had crude relations with women of all sorts- family and not.
Look at his works- they are all of horror and/or mystery. The guy is a perfect symbol for all things considered dark and morbid. Most of his poetry is about death or the unspeakable things. He was a sensation/still is because he knew no limits. He crossed the line in his literature often to cause unease, discomfort and to invoke the thrill we all inside for the morbid and terrifying.

this person is a friend and i have been helping them detox for a lil over a month now. they used the drug lorcet for almost 5 yrs. and they have come this far and i would hate for them to relapes. i have been very dedicated to them for the past month and watch every lil thing they do and ask tons of ? am i being to nosey or am i doing the right thing.
