In part 2 of 3 of Chris Wallace’s interview with Rush Limbaugh, he asked Rush about healthcare reform. Rush said that it’s an attempt by the government to steal 1/6 of the private sector economy and take control. Once they get control of healthcare, they will be able to make more decisions about how we run our lives. Rush does not think individual mandates, forcing Americans to purchase health insurance, is constitutional. Wallace also asks Rush about the success of Glenn Beck. Rush also discussed his efforts to buy an NFL franchise, the St. Louis Rams, and how the Obama campaign played a role. Wallace also asked him about his statement that going to drug rehab was the best thing that ever happened to him.
There are some good studies that have shown that an effective way to prevent problems with alcohol and drugs is for parents to talk to their teenagers the summer before going to college about the dangers of these substances. Three reasons why college is more dangerous for students is there is no parental control, about half the population at college are of legal drinking age and they will likely want to experiment more. It is important for parents to discuss what dangers their children will be exposed to, as teenagers can develop chronic alcohol problems and drink at higher levels which can lead to alcohol poisoning. College campuses are trying to come up with ways to combat this problem. For instance, San Diego State has initiated a program called “Aztec Nights” during the first six weeks (which is the highest risk time) to give college students something to do besides drinking at night. They put together student groups and planned concerts and other activities and they serve free food and non-alcoholic drinks. This has been a great success, as alcohol poisoning and alcohol-related arrests went down dramatically. There are also many great programs available to parents who want to help their kids get through the critical transition from high school to college. Question by Ernie: Amino Acid Therapy for alcoholism or substance abuse issues?
Does anyone have any experience with this newer treatment. It is based on replenishing lacking brain chemicals which are causing a “reward deficiency” . The Amino acids are given either through IV or orally. Is this medically accepted? More importantly does it work to prevent relapses? Thanks!
Best answer:
Answer by metcalfmaintenance1 I’ve never heard of it but I’ve been in recovery for six years and ironically chose to go the fitness route. I’ve used amino acids for protein synthesis. If a by product is relapse prevention I would be amazed. The best way to stay sober/clean is not to take that first drink/drug. Find a support group , a sponsor , and a good 12 step program.

The term recovery has become synonymous with substance abuse. Is it the best term to describe what life is like today for a recovered addict/alcoholic? Does it accurately describe how you feel? Is there a better name to describe it? What do you think?
Several interviews with recovered drug addicts show the recklessness and abandon they often feel when doing drugs. Some of them talk about having Virus C. In the middle of their testimonies, there are segments of showing a person digging his own grave. The message of the film is twofold: find your way out of addiction, and if you insist to do drugs, protect yourself by using a new needle.

It has come to my attention that a lot of smokers I know also happen to be heavy drinkers. I was just wondering whether the two habits are really connected. Will undergoing treatment for alcohol abuse also get rid of the person’s smoking habit?
