alcoholicsfriend.com Four tips on how to stop obsessing over an alcoholic. Coping with a husband, wife, friend or co-worker is challenging. These tips will help you handle difficult situations in a much more calm way. I have three FREE , full-length audio lessons for you in our mini course for dealing with alcoholics. Why should you listen to me? You should listen to me because my mom was an alcoholic, I battled with the disease and have been sober for thirteen years, and I was married to an abusive drug-addict/alcoholic. I’ve attend thousands of AA and Al-non meetings and have helped thousands deal with alcohol related situations. I can help you too! Slowly, over time, our lives become invaded with thoughts of what the problem drinker is doing. From the moment we awake up-until we sleep, we cannot quit thinking about their behaviors. Here are a few steps to help you break the obsession: -Don’t even look at them when you are around them to try and figure out if they have been drinking, are drinking or will be getting drunk later. -Refuse to drive by any place that you think they may be getting drunk. -Only call them on the phone once when they break an engagement. -Just get in bed and go to sleep when they have not come home. Relationship problems with alcoholics are difficult to handle. These tips will help you to have more peace and serenity in your life. Why would they? When you stop wondering what they are doing all of the time, you will quit confronting them. This …

Question by LookinForAnswers: Have to push brake pedal all the way to the floor to stop?!!?
I NEVER had to do this before, what is wrong with my car? I ask many of the guys/men that I know and they all give me different answers. My step father is a mechanic but I’ve had enough with his alcoholism. Anyway, this just started after work today, out of nowhere! I’m going crazy. And it’s scary. I have things to do tomorrow, and I need my car. Should I try and talk to a mechanic somewhere? See what they say? I got my boyfriend to drive my car, he noticed it. He’s driven it before. He said it seems like my front brakes aren’t working. How big of a problem is that? He filled up my brake fluid and pumped the brakes a little but they’re still messed up! Please help!!
It’s a 1997 Chevy Malibu.
Rear brake pads were recently replaced.
Front, I don’t know about them.
I bought the car used.
Front breaks are drums.
Rear are something else.
Um…ALSO, leaky greenish stuff. I forgot to mention that. =(

Best answer:

Answer by Brandon M
The brake pads or rotors may be completely worn down; when’s the last time you had them looked at?

Or, you may have air in the brake system, in which case, they will have to be bled and refilled.

In the mean time, that is a VERY dangerous way to drive your car; you could be seriously hurt. If at all possible, find another way to get to work until the problem is fixed.

Question by hunnerbunner: What treatment works to stop addiction? Former addicts answers please…?
I know that there are lots of theories out there.

Is there any hope? Or is one plan just as likely to fail as all others?

My son is addicted. His drug of choice is DXM. He’ll take anything though…and I mean anything if he thinks it will get him high.
He’s living in our home and we wanted to allow him time to try and beat this on his own but it’s not happening. He steals our cars, our money, our medicines, and he set up a camera to get the combination in order to get into our safe and take what was there. I’m tired of this new life I live.
I love him and don’t want to kick him to the streets but he’s not willing to go get help.

I have no complete faith in any treatment because there is nothing that is sure to work, at least it doesn’t seem so. He’s 18 and so we could unload thousands upon thousands in a treatment program just to watch him walk away from it and we’d be stuck with the bill. He no longer has a conscience and so he would not care that he did this to us.

Best answer:

Answer by sourcherry119
I’m so sorry that your son has started a life of addiction so young. Regardless of age or drug of choice, addiction is so mind boggling and emotionally frustrating – you want to cut them off in hopes they change, and they don’t,.. and it gets worse .. so for fear of their lives you help them.. and the cycle ends up perpetuating.

There are treatments for addiction but they all require some sort of co-operation from the addict – in the end, nothing will change if they don’t want to.
Medication is available to help, psychotherapy or counselling, and support groups as well.

You should know that this CAN be treated… don’t always look at it as failure even though there is a lot of it. It takes so much perseverance and is so damn difficult – but sometimes we have to draw the line and let them take control of their own life.

The best option in my own opinion is an intervention. The addict doesn’t always realize how they are effecting others they care about or even the extent that others care about them. They don’t always see your sacrifice or your emotional pain… just waiting and dealing with their own hell. This doesn’t mean they are deliberately selfish.. it’s just how addiction works.

If you would like to do research – I would suggest watching the tv show “Intervention”. of course it is television – so not always accurate.. but it gives a good representation of addiction from both sides of the battle and how an intervention works. Perhaps consulting with a therapist or counselor from your area who could lead the intervention if it was too overwhelming to do yourself.

I really wish the best of luck to you and your significant other. I admire you for doing the best you can with what you have … it’s such a difficult struggle. I hope your son finds his way again.

Bunches of bad news over Christmas and got me to be hatin’ and I can’t let that get round in my head for to long or I’ll act on it and somebody will be getting hurt… Without putting to much of my business out their lets suffice it to say someone made my Mom cry on Christmas and this someone is somebody that my Pap and Mom do SOOOOO much for!! And I am not even talking about the thousands of dollars they help them out with! So I am angry and I wrote a song about hating! Something as a recovered alcoholic I can not afford to do. See Acceptance is the answer to ALL my problems today… But I just might have to accept that I need to go punch this idiots lights out. Yea he’s younger, bigger maybe stronger than me but I am a recovered addict and I do not fight fair! He would never see me coming…LOL… Just a warning — no threat. Lyrics: Young hatin’ old, old hatin’ young Pants down to his knees, f**in’ pierced tongue Feel it? Can you feel all this rage?? Shit, I was piercing things when I was half your age… 1970 – 8 hits of Secanol Pierced my ears, now your piercin’ your balls My generation invented electric guitars and amplifiers So you could rap with Aerosmith -Old men in diapers… Got Black hatin’ brown, red hatin’ white White hatin” everybody, left wing and right. Everybody hatin’ cause of ones age ’cause of one’s color, ’cause he’s in a cage– –locked up, locked down, throw away the key But listen asshole you can’t be hatin’ me Hatin’ cause I’m fat, skinny , or …
Talk about being compelled to “do the right thing” and stop causing other people pain just because I was hurt. Come to the realization that I was not such a “great guy”, try to take responsibility for where I went wrong in the past, and express my desire to focus on the future and try to maintain positivity while giving up alcohol.
STEP FIVE “———-confess with your mouth—” Ro 10: 9 “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Jas 5: 16 “Now make confession to the Lord, the God of your fathers, and do his will.” Ezr 10: 11 “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Jas 4: 6 “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” Pr 12: 22 ADMITTED TO GOD, TO OURSELVES, AND TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THE EXACT NATURE OF OUR WRONGS. The Fifth Step is the second of the spiritual tools which the addicted person must learn to use and which will be used by him for the rest of his life in recovery. It is a vital and indispensable part of the process of recovery, for it requires the verbal admission of those things about the person which he has struggled to keep secret. The admissions must be not only to himself and to God, but to another human being. It is this very fact of revealing himself to another person which teaches him humility and honesty to a degree he has never before known. It also has the cleansing effect of confession which is necessary for the freeing of the soul from the tethers of secret guilt. If this Step is not taken, the addicted person will not recover from his addiction! The Fifth Step is designed to accomplish several objectives. First, the admission of defects (wrongs) which is a spiritual requirement in order to invoke God’s help in solving these problems. Second, learning to use the process of …

Hypnosis offers a very powerful intervention for drinking problems, as it does for most addictive targets such as food, nicotine, and prescription and street drugs. The normal treatment process starts with a good intake interview, usually 80 to 90 minutes in length. I like to take a comprehensive history before we start the hypnosis so that I know we are headed down the right path. Most people struggling with addiction problems have tried to quit many times and tried many ways to stop on their own. Therefore, I don’t want hypnosis to become another tried and failed intervention, because I have seen it work so many times if it is applied properly. With most people who are amenable to hypnotherapy, you can tell if it is working within the first three to five sessions, and many times, people have noticeable relief after the first session. After that, the sessions can either be stretched out to a maintenance level of once every two to four weeks.

For my numerous impostors I thank you for your efforts to defame and discredit me. Your actions have failed miserably and you have energized the Anti-AA community. In the spewing of your venom you have only proven my points as well as the still valid points of other Anti-AA You Tubers correct. You have proven that AA and groups like it are religious hate organizations that will do and say anything to suppress criticism. Anything but address the criticism. Over the last month we have seen effort after effort by AA proponents to discredit or defame those who speak against the AA/ 12step cult and they have failed each time. In your efforts to discredit us you have only created a multi-national Anti-AA juggernaut; that generations of future AA cult members will have to work through for the group as a whole to survive. Gone is the ability to excuse failed logic and a program that does not work away. It is your own hate and poor performance in discourse that is now killing off your organization. Make no mistake; the days of AA and 12 step rule over the treatment industry are numbered. This was the very reason why there was a Tradition 10 in case you did not notice. It is the hate and unwillingness to address the issues from AA proponents that have made this all possible. No amount of AA or 12 step apologetics can repair this damage. It is this outside issue that will now unravel the lies, deceptions, fabrications, and hostility that comes from AA and 12 step proponents.
