I need to accept my emotional, spiritual and physical condition. Feelings are good, I got to a meeting last night and listened to many sharing their truth. Spiritual always based on the truth of now starting with my feelings which impact on how I think from moment to moment. Physical condition not so good, aggravated slipped discs and trapped nerve in back. Can feel right in my head, take account of not being so mobile for today. Can do, cannot do, wisdom to know the difference. Contingent on my spiritual condition, dealing with the truth of my situation I am free to make the best choices. When I am unsure, I ask myself what advice I would give another with similar opportunities today. Then I check my suggestions with others dependent on the issues and options. Letting go of knowing the right answer and checking with people who know, asking for help and advice I am more likely to accept what I may do today… DonInLondon 2005-2010 Planet earth part of nature, providence, as life is not as we might wish it so. We do have choices today, personal and as a society over many aspects of human doings. Powerless over alcohol, people places and things feels like letting go the need to try control the impossible. Yet even the sober in this world are still driven to believe they have control. Mostly it is an illusion of their choosing. Acceptance of life as it is, truth, love and wisdom seem to flow more positively, rather than trying to hold back the tide of denial we humans need … Video Rating: 0 / 5
A right relationship with the Universe and knowing we all have a right to be here. Included, intertwined and always connected in the moment of now. For me it is not about control or having power over people, places and things or judging anything as right or wrong, good or bad. Living in the moment helps me see how I fit into the big picture and make the best choices open to me today. Freedom to choose life on life’s terms… Our path and journey in life is influenced by where we are, location, the opportunities open to us in this moment in time. No longer stuck by old thinking, old ways of behaving and letting go secrets which can keep me stuck. Open, honest and willing, I look outwards to opportunity, just for today asking for help rather than working it on my own and limited to one perception… Always the journey, the destination less obvious today… DonInLondon 2005-2010 A higher power of our own understanding; beyond thinking and feeling as we come to understand he she or it. Good conscience, courage and faith are elements of living we develop in recovery as the days of self-harm and harm to others slows and ends. A regular pattern of living in the day, being immersed in the moment of now becomes more than a feeling. In the day we feel reality, a spiritual “now”. Our own perception of a higher power can be very difficult. I have seen that I can be completely immune to the concept of powers greater than me; life gives us opportunity to ask ourselves what a higher …
July 30 Steps In Action Alcoholics Anonymous DonInLondon ~ Serenity does not come from being right or righteous. Often we may feel so. Serenity seems to come from acceptance of life on life’s terms. Everything is as it is, we can change our attitudes and behaviour, we are hard pressed if we try the same with others… A prayer for all seasons and time ~ a meditation in moments where life is joyful or sad, difficult or easy. The serenity prayer offers a reminder in any moment that life is just the way it may be now. That we can change some elements, other elements we cannot and the wisdom is knowing the difference. Acceptance of truth, love and wisdom of others…In good conscience or to the God of your understanding ~God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change. Courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference. DonInLondon ~ The good news is the people who disturb us and rent out space in our heads are evicted sooner in recovery. And it is true, no amount of any philosophy can shift the tenant until we have processed, from denial to acceptance and the eviction is complete. Progress can take time, and I am working on awkward tenants who seem to squat from time to time… Usually the tenants move in when I am happy and then for some reason they hurt me, because I trust them to behave as I do. Open, honest and willing and hope they will treat me fairly as I do them. When they don’t, accept and forgive, and the consequence is they can’t come back for a while… or never! July 18 2010 Grateful for what I have… Rock bottom, some time back, I woke up, no idea what time of day. A moment of clarity, life could get no worse. If this was as bad as it could get and still be alive. No idea what to do, I picked up the phone and asked for help. Now I can do this every day… July 18 2010 Working Hard… Living life to the full? September 2008 ~ 2010 Step nine is about clearing the wreckage of the past, what our old attitudes and behaviour did to ourselves and others and making the amends we can. Back then, when I as an active alcoholic I hurt myself and others. Step nine recognising old ways, making amends and committing to new ways of living… the promises Recovery is not about waiting for some magic, it is about putting in action to change our attitudes and behaviour. Back in the final days of drinking I can forget how bad it got… Then I hear a harrowing share detailing the physical and emotional horror. I sat there feeling the shock of truth. My story no less shocking mirrored what I heard. We humans have amazing capacities to recover when we find a path. In recent months many newcomers to the fellowship. Some very wary of the people, the places, what they hear and what they see. In early days I wanted to fit in and be a good student. I did people please, and I did get caught in the web of some with little or no integrity. And then realised that fellowship is like all walks of life, people are people, some good and some bad, plenty of wisdom to learn and plenty of chaff a day at a time… August 2008 ~ 2010 Spiritual experience, all day every day… some suggest it is the ability to cope with now, some suggest it is letting go our opinion and personal view “thinking kept me drinking,” some suggest less denials and more truth, less of a personal judgment and standing in others shoes. Could it be simply living in the moment? “All inclusive today” In fellowship, in life and more in tune with “truth, love and wisdom shared with me.” To be included, loved and develop choices in life as life happens. August 9 | Steps In Action Alcoholics Anonymous DonInLondon ~ On a positive note, Thank God I am sober Riots in London. A breakdown in law and order. Anger and resentment, loss of reason and insanity rules. Why? The answers will come in time. Most of us know the answers, and many just cannot accept them. If we do not invest in people, people will likely divest those privileged in a broken society. Weak leadership, process driven, reliant on “the establishment,” out of touch and out of sight need a kick up the arse… I can recall working hard and putting every effort into my work. Dr. Clapp discusses the DUI prevention program they developed and had great success with at SD State College. About 28 to 30% of students reported drinking and driving, and an even higher percentage of students drove with a drunk driver. Of the roughly 1800 college student deaths each year, about 83% are related to drunk driving. They looked to see what worked in community centers and adapted that for a campus setting. It was found to be very important to hire undergrad marketing students to come up with a campaign. The campaign was basically designed to raise the perception of risk for getting arrested for drunk driving among other students. They wanted students to believe that if they drank and drove there was a high likelihood of getting arrested. Media advocacy was implemented and they had students write into the school newspapers, letters and editorials and talk about drunk driving and supporting the campaign. Major streets were blocked off and SD and campus police set up several DUI checkpoints around the campus. Roaming view campaigns were also implemented where police drove around with ‘DUI enforcement’ emblems on their vehicles and pulled over people. The police would always put their sirens on to make it appear that a lot of people were getting pulled over for drunk driving, even if it had been for a minor traffic violation. With this combined effect of this campaign, DUIs on SD State decreased by 27% in one semester. Dr. Clapp is Director of the Center for … Video Rating: 5 / 5
