Question by meetoo: Alcoholic sober for 12 years, but I really want to drink some good red wine with dinner – Do you think I can?
I got sober 12 years ago when my life was a disaster. Booze, drugs and the wild rock n roll lifestyle nearly killed me.

Since then, I have aquired a great life. Wife, 2 kids, a good job…….But, I really want to drink like a nice red wine with good food.

I feel like I’m missing out on one of life’s great pleasures – good wine.

Any alcoholics out there grow out of it, and found themselves able to just drink some occassional wine?

Why would you want to risk everything you have, just to have a glass of wine? You are a recovering alcoholic, so you should know of the slippery slope that drinking can be. You claim to have a good life with your wife, kids and job. Don’t be a fool.

What are some ways I can develop alcoholism quicker?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 6 Comments »

Question by Kermit: What are some ways I can develop alcoholism quicker?
Life is rather mundane, and the girl of my dreams is non existent and really bland even in fantasy. She only wants to watch TV, debate baseball lineups and has put on 20 pounds while getting her implants removed.

I digress.

I have decided to develop a habbit of some sort, and am leaning towards alcohol.

I really don’t drink much more than Miller Lite. Will this suffice in turning into a habbit? Or will I need to work my way up the ladder quicker?

Right now my autobiography is a bore!

Question by † God Bless You †: What are some way to help with drug (opiate) addiction? Is there a way for free help with working citizens?
In particular pain killer addiction (opiate). I was doing them for about 2 years on and off. I was making (still am) good money and was able to pay the bills . I want to quit, I have told everyone in my immediate family about my addiction, especially my wife she found out the hard way.

I AM going to beat this, I WILL BEAT THIS ADDICTION.

I dont want to see anyone suffer anymore about this.

I am beginning to put more self confidence and respect for myself. I love myself.

i LOVE MY WIFE. I will NEVER go back to this addiction because i know what is more important in my life

I dont want people to respond with bashing or putting me down. I’m making this public because i am not ashaimed of this and i KNOW i can beat it!

please give me advice.
I’ve finally seen the light and let the lord into my heart. He has forgiven all my sins, i am now a christian. The lord has lifted all my burdens and filled my heart with love and joy. Thanks to all who responded, the lord has taken care of my problems, and helped me start a new life as one of his children. God Bless you all!

Is it ok for a recovered alcoholic to have some beer?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 6 Comments »

Question by Icecream: Is it ok for a recovered alcoholic to have some beer?
A guy I know had gone to rehab for alcohol a few years ago and now he has a couple of beers but no longer the hard alcohol he used to have. Is that ok? I’ve never had beer so I don’t know if it’s not as strong so ok to have like most guys have. It seems harmless compared to all the whiskey he used to have so I haven’t said anything to avoid confrontation if it’s in fact ok.

If he is drinking anything that contains alcohol, he is not recovered. An alcoholic cannot have anything that contains alcohol, or it is considered a relapse.

Why is it that alcoholism treatments don’t work for some people?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION Comments Off

Question by bayley y: Why is it that alcoholism treatments don’t work for some people?
I know of some people who have been in rehab but took to drinking alcohol again after they were let out of the program. Why is this so?

Best answer:

Answer by abygail m
Alcoholism treatments work. The thing is, though, it doesn’t work for everybody because there are just some people who aren’t really making enough effort to stay away from alcohol. These are the people who may not have wanted to get themselves treated for their addiction in the first place. It may also be because the person has not spent enough time in the treatment program and is not very committed to recovery. Recovery from alcoholism is also a life-long process, thus, the patients will always be susceptible to the possibility of relapse.
