Question by Lisa T: Has anyone tried taking Antabuse to help with alcoholism? Did it work? What were the side effects?
My husband has a serious drinking problem. I am desperate in finding something to help him stop drinking. He has tried many times but always goes right back. HELP me with any suggestions that you may have. Thanks Lisa

Answer by bmac Well, Lisa….if he wants to stop drinking, great. Antabuse is not a great idea. I understand the pain and frustration you’re having. It does have bad side effects like seizures, jaundice (liver problems-which he probably has already) and severe diarrhea and vomiting. These are usually so bad, that the person stops taking the Anatbuse. Has he gone to AA? That is the BEST thing. It is more successful than anything else he could try. And you can go to Al-Anon. It’s for the family/friends of alcoholics. It will help you so much. Even if he won’t go to AA, I highly recommend Al-Anon for you.

In the second week of jan 2006 he had a biopsy in Willington hospital London , which shows that he has a chronic ductopenic rejection due to interferon therapy.
Unfortunately his condition did not improve and he underwent his 3rd transplant on 28th Feb 06 in China .
This time we had to do ROUX.EN Y LOOP anastomosis. And also put a stent inside.
His HCV RNA is negative before and after retransplant uptill today.
CMV infection or any other infection is negative post transplant presently.
He is looking well, taking:
Tacrolimus 0.5mg once a day, 250 mg Cellcept twise a day., and ursoflask.
Before the third operation he got the hernia under the wound so during the opration they put a patch under the abdominal wall.now the patch is removed long ago but hernia is reoccuring.,his liver fuction tests shows normal but only his alkalain phospate and gamma GT were constant on high levels.,pls advise advise me if he take alcohol what are the side effects.,

My grandpa died when I was 20. I talked to him for two hours on the phone the day he died. He was my best friend, and my youngest aunt said his last words were “get Jason he can help”. I’ve never met my father, and I hear he is a piece of work. I called my grandmother on that side of the family and she told me she is an 80 year old blind woman and wanted to be left alone.
I do love my grandmother on my mom’s side, and my real mom died 5 years ago. I was adopted by my oldest aunt. So I know a lot about loss. I’m just wondering how people feel about losing most of their family before they are even 32? I turn 32 next week.
I think of historical figures like George Washington who was given an estate at the young age of 17 because both his father and uncle died in their 40′s. I’m sure he was a strong person that was able to lead not only his family, but troops, and eventually go against the greatest empire.
What are your thoughts on loss? I think the most inspirational book I read on this topic was ‘Why Bad Things Happen to Good People’ by Harold S. Kushner. But sometimes I feel little solace anyway. I wrote my grandma a letter last week that she read. My meth addicted uncle won’t let me visit her because he calls the cops since I turned him in for abusing her. And she supported him because that is her way when the department of aging came to check on her.
I have been on 130 mgs of methadone for ten months now. I am constantly constipated and fall asleep easily. But when I don’t take it I feel very depressed.
I could have told the FDA that LOTS of people abuse cough and cold med’s…
But what are the long/short term side effects? Are there any?
I have heard that the muscle twitches that cause your eyes to ‘wiggle’ while high on cough med’s can become permanent… I know you can OD on it like any other medication…
But I have never heard of any other consequences of cough med abuse.
Can you get addicted to it? Does it destroy any of your organs?
You hear about how Ecstasy&Meth destroy your brain, how heroin is so very addictive…Yet I haven’t heard anything about the most abused & easily obtainable substance on the market!
Does anyone know what abusing Cough Syrup actually does to your body?
Cough Syrup, Triple-C, Evil Skittles, Hundreds of names, Abused at 1 time or another by everyone I know.
But what are the negative consequences?

Oh, and YES, I have abused it in the past… I didn’t know it was possible until there was a news story about it on NBC.
It makes you hallucinate and enter a delirium where you can even forget who you are… I have never seen so much as when I was on Coriciden-D Cough Medication.
I was about 15 when I first tried it…
My friends and I used/abused it every other weekend for a while… We only stopped when our tolerance got too high and we were afraid we would OD.
I haven’t done it in more then 4 years and had not done if for at least 3 years before that…
