Question by Red Ant: We are going to confront (kindly) our drug-addicted sister tonight. Do you know any right words?
The 51 year old “little” sister has been a drug addict since high school. Her husband of 27 years gave up and they are getting divorced (not that he was any angel). The little sister recently had back surgery (doc did a great job), and she is not doing exercises or anything to help herself. She has used the situation (although extreme) to get drugs first, attention second, and was hoping someone would take care of her afterward for the rest of her life. That is not happening.
She has sent us to the pharmacy to refill muscle relaxers, Hydrocodone, and God knows what else — only to be told it’s too soon for a refill. In other words, she’s as much a drug user now as ever before. She pulled attempted suicide a year and 1/2 ago. We weren’t amused, but we can’t live her life for her, be her mother, or whatever else it is she doesn’t want to do.
My other sane sister and I are going over to her apartment tonight to drop off Narcotics Anonymous material and tell her the same thing my brother and wife told her, “We love you, but you have to quit doing this. We can’t be your Saviour, you have to clean up and care about your life.”
Besides dropping off the NA material (which is wonderful), what can my sister and I say to her that could possibly get her out of her SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF ????
I’m just sick of this, but can’t quit if little sister is going to hang suicide over our heads again. Thank you for any replies.

Jesus can and Will take away her drug addiction. She has to believe in Him first…and trust in Him that He will. He did it for me. Maybe tell her this. Pray with her…Help her find a nice non denominational church she can worship in.

You don’t have to worry too much. Finding one is relatively easy. Since your friend is willing to enter a drug rehab, I think the best way you can do is to click on the links below. You will find useful information regarding your friend’s problem. The second link, in particular, will lead to a drug rehab located in your place. Good luck!

Question by denice p: How can an individual find the addiction treatment center that will be right for him?
I just got the idea that maybe drug rehab programs don’t work for some people because they happen to have picked the wrong kind of treatment program for them. I have a friend who wants to get treated and I want to share some info on how she can choose the right treatment center for her.

There really are so many addiction treatment centers and treatment programs proliferating the US today. I think that for a person to be able to find the right treatment program for himself, he must first discuss the treatment methods with the staff of the treatment center. This way, he would get to know more information regarding the methods that they employ. Consulting a doctor will also be good as he will get expert advice. Each treatment center may employ different clinical approaches, though a lot of them base their programs on the 12-step approach. Just remember that they must be able to take into account not just your friend’s addiction, but also her other needs.

Question by clarissa w: How can I find the addiction treatment center that’s right for me?
I tried going cold turkey before, but it made me experience withdrawal symptoms that I really didn’t like. I’ve heard about programs that didn’t work on other people before, so I want to be sure that I’m picking the right addiction treatment center for myself.

There are so many addiction treatment centers and rehabilitation programs that proliferate the US today. To be able to find the right one for you, discuss the treatment methods with the staff. You might want to ask your doctor for recommendations so you’ll have expert advice before jumping into the treatment. Each treatment center may employ different philosophies and clinical approach, so it’s important that you inquire first and then make a decision when you have found one that you think will suit you best. Keep in mind, however, that recovery is still up to you. You have to be determined to get well. Best of luck!

what meditation is right for me?

Uncategorized 2 Comments »

Hello,

I have been looking for a while now for a specific sort of meditation.
I have found some of course, but i am looking to develop a specific skill. most of them focus on relaxation or overcoming addictions, or achieving a higher self.
My job requires me to be creative, and what I am looking for is a way of learning to not get distracted by meaningless things.
When I try to think about something, and come up with creative ideas, I usually get distracted by things in the room, or sounds, or useless thoughts.
When I was a kid, I could be daydreaming about some fantasy-story i made up, and be completely entranced in it, ignoring all the things that could have distracted me. I kind of lost that, and I want to get it back. I just want to be able to sit down and focus all my attention on some thought (a story i am writing for example), and completely explore that thought.
I want to be open to new ideas, but only to ideas that have to do with that story I am writing, blocking out all the useless information. So i want to explore all the characters/events i can come up with, but not explore what the lamp in my room looks like.

I hope you know what I mean.
Does anyone know any meditation (or meditation-like) practices that focus on this?
I don’t care if it’s Buddhist or secular or anything else. I’m just interested in the meditation-technique, not in the specific religion.

Thank you.

(Women Only) Did I do the right thing?

Dated a woman for 14 mos.-Were friends for yrs-Older brother s3xually abused her during childhood. She’s 45 & lives at home (where the abuse took place) with her mom-in same room she had when she was 9. She’s attractive, had abusive relationships, but no friends. She has plenty of $ & could easily move out. As we dated, she would get weird—accusing me of saying things that are s3xually inappropriate. I never tried to do this, & we NEVER HAD S3X. I actually liked her. I was sensitive about the abuse, but she called me names, hit me & been emotionally abusive. After 14 mos., I decided to bring this up. When I tried, she lost it & accused me of s3xually inappropriate behavior 0VER 1 YR AGO. She also said I was s3xually inappropriate around her niece-24 & with a meth addict. Only been around niece 2X. Anyway, she stopped talking in Jan.-crossed paths with her 2X. She was uncomfortable-acting like she would like to talk. I sent her note expressing no animosity-wishing her well. Was this OK?
