Question by meetoo: Alcoholic sober for 12 years, but I really want to drink some good red wine with dinner – Do you think I can?
I got sober 12 years ago when my life was a disaster. Booze, drugs and the wild rock n roll lifestyle nearly killed me.

Since then, I have aquired a great life. Wife, 2 kids, a good job…….But, I really want to drink like a nice red wine with good food.

I feel like I’m missing out on one of life’s great pleasures – good wine.

Any alcoholics out there grow out of it, and found themselves able to just drink some occassional wine?

Why would you want to risk everything you have, just to have a glass of wine? You are a recovering alcoholic, so you should know of the slippery slope that drinking can be. You claim to have a good life with your wife, kids and job. Don’t be a fool.

For addiction treatment to work, does the person have to really want it?

Question by adriana p: For addiction treatment to work, does the person have to really want it?
I am amazed at the number of persons I know who are off to rehab but don’t seem to want to go. Wouldn’t forcing them to go be futile?

Best answer:

Answer by dania d
Well, the two of the common reasons why people are in drug rehabs are because the court mandated them to do so, or because their loved ones convinced them to go and get themselves treated. A lot of research has shown that those who enter drug treatment programs because of pressure can benefit from treatment, despite the fact that they were forced to do so in the first place. Treatment programs that offer continuing care may be better for these people.

I have a friend that has been using crystal meth for about 4 months now and really wants top quit.?

I want to help her but as I have little to no experience with drugs other than pot I am not sure what to do to help. I have offered her a place to stay for free as long as she is clean. I live 45 km from town and there is no bus service so she will be relying on me for transportation but how can I be sure she is staying of the crap and how can I help her through the detox?

Is alcoholism really a disease, or is calling it a disease just giving one an “excuse” to keep drinking?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 10 Comments »

Please give me specifics (bioligical) on why you think it is a disease, and why people claim they have no power over it?
That would be *biological*, not that other word I mis-spelled up there.
