Kevin Coyne could, perhaps, only have come out of the Sixties and Seventies British music scene. His sad, savage, thought-provoking songs, delivered in a unique voice were unlike anything else around. He had the power to draw raw emotions from a deep subconscious well. Kevin’s experience working in a psychiatric hospital and with alcoholics left an indelible mark on his life and songs. In later life Kevin had his own struggles with nervous breakdown and alcoholism. He died of a lung condition on 2 December 2004 in Germany, where he had lived for many years. This video may serve as a small tribute to a hugely talented and sadly neglected songwriter and performer. This charming, moving, inspirational song is actually not typical of his work but deserves to be better known. If we recognized our common humanity perhaps there would be many more smiles. A happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year to you all. I Only Want To See You Smile is from Kevin Coyne’s album Dynamite Daze. As far as I can discover from this site (see entry Dynamite Daze 1978): www.discogs.com it is indeed the Tim Rice of Evita etc fame on piano. Lyrics: I Only Want To See You Smile (Written and Performed by Kevin Coyne with Tim Rice, piano) I only want to see you smile You know I like it when you smile It’s such a marvellous smile And you know it’s deep like heaven I want to be your friend I truly want to be your friend And the letters that I send Are filled with heart and love dear A million lullabies I …

Question by iheartexistence: if someone is 3 years sober, is the only way they can stay sober to stay in AA? or are there other ways?
are there other ways to live a normal sober life without committing to aa 2 nights a week? can someone stay sober after 3 years sober in AA with out staying in AA? and with out a sponsor to refer to?
Best answer:
Answer by Casafras A lot of people see AA as the ONLY way that they can get through their sobriety; however, for me, I couldn’t stand being told that I couldn’t do anything on my own. I have been sober for two years now, with the help and support of friends, family and God.
IT is DEF possible.
Good Luck
XO
He has had most of the complications in the last year, bleeding varices that were banded last fall, he still drinks, he sleeps most of the time, he has ascites and edema which the Dr. just put him on a diuretic to see if that will reduce the fluid. He has had bouts of Hepatic Encephalopathy also, but no signs of that now. He is a severe alcoholic, 56 years old and cannot/won’t quit drinking, although he does go for some days now without alcohol because he is too sick to drink. He is not a candidate for a transplant, so don’t mention that to me. I would like to know what the dying process consists of with cirrhosis and if the kidneys always fail first. I want specific days or weeks or months of his likely survival please from someone who may have gone through this. Do they all go into a coma before they die? Since he just started the diuretic Hydrochlorithiazide we don’t know if it will relieve the fluid buildup or not, but the Dr. did not recommend paracentesis for him.

I like the store bought eggnog but can’t really afford leisures this year. So how do you make non alcoholic eggnog? And please only use recipes that serve about 2 people, as Its only me and my husband this year.
My grandpa died when I was 20. I talked to him for two hours on the phone the day he died. He was my best friend, and my youngest aunt said his last words were “get Jason he can help”. I’ve never met my father, and I hear he is a piece of work. I called my grandmother on that side of the family and she told me she is an 80 year old blind woman and wanted to be left alone.
I do love my grandmother on my mom’s side, and my real mom died 5 years ago. I was adopted by my oldest aunt. So I know a lot about loss. I’m just wondering how people feel about losing most of their family before they are even 32? I turn 32 next week.
I think of historical figures like George Washington who was given an estate at the young age of 17 because both his father and uncle died in their 40′s. I’m sure he was a strong person that was able to lead not only his family, but troops, and eventually go against the greatest empire.
What are your thoughts on loss? I think the most inspirational book I read on this topic was ‘Why Bad Things Happen to Good People’ by Harold S. Kushner. But sometimes I feel little solace anyway. I wrote my grandma a letter last week that she read. My meth addicted uncle won’t let me visit her because he calls the cops since I turned him in for abusing her. And she supported him because that is her way when the department of aging came to check on her.
Dated a woman for 14 mos.-Were friends for yrs-Older brother s3xually abused her during childhood. She’s 45 & lives at home (where the abuse took place) with her mom-in same room she had when she was 9. She’s attractive, had abusive relationships, but no friends. She has plenty of $ & could easily move out. As we dated, she would get weird—accusing me of saying things that are s3xually inappropriate. I never tried to do this, & we NEVER HAD S3X. I actually liked her. I was sensitive about the abuse, but she called me names, hit me & been emotionally abusive. After 14 mos., I decided to bring this up. When I tried, she lost it & accused me of s3xually inappropriate behavior 0VER 1 YR AGO. She also said I was s3xually inappropriate around her niece-24 & with a meth addict. Only been around niece 2X. Anyway, she stopped talking in Jan.-crossed paths with her 2X. She was uncomfortable-acting like she would like to talk. I sent her note expressing no animosity-wishing her well. Was this OK?

My whole building is full of people that are some of the worst alcoholics I have ever seen… My neighbor is banging a guy old enough to be her grandpa and does nothing but smoke pot and yell at her dog then go downstairs and drink…
Everyone I have met up in Winetka or North Brook, the two most well-off parts of the Chicago-Land area are LITERALLY either alcoholics or CRACK HEADS… LITERALLY smoking crack and abusing pills.
Hillary Clinton is from the area I’m talking about! (Though that would explain some things I have seen her say and do.)
It seems as if I’m the last person on earth to start abusing an intoxicating substance to be able to get through life… And then they all look at me strangely when I complain about how they screwed something up or forgot to do something important because they were too fixated on their substance of choice to give a sh*t about it.
In Arizona, everyone was either an alcoholic or doing meth… I grew up in Ahwatukee! The RICH part of Phoenix… (I wasn’t rich but we had a nice house in the area) and they were catching 8th graders SMOKING CRACK in the wash (dry river bed) behind the Middle School!
A teacher I knew had a daughter that was chased by these crack smoking 8th graders because she came across them while she was walking home from school and they didn’t want her to tell!
For fu*ks sake… Why is it that I am the ‘odd duck’ for NOT wanting to depend on an intoxicating substance to get through my life?
