I think it is really awesome that you kicked your meth habit, but if there is “free money” out there I think children from under privilege families would benefit most.

EDIT: Here is a list of dental schools by state (as the other person suggested). You could call one near where you live and see if they give you an estimate.

Because of a friend’s drug addiction, I have recently decided to have a career in a drug rehabilitation.

I’ve wanted to be an RN for a while, but I’m sure there are other requirements to work with patients in drug rehab centers.

I don’t really need to know the actions of the people and what I’ll be dealing with so much as what the REQUIREMENTS are.

If you know of any links or have any advice, please let me know.

My local library has a Vocational Guidance book. It has about 3 or 4 pages on each job. So find a good librarian & get this info. If you are in a school go to a counselor & set up a meeting with one. Call colledges cause you might have to go to a specific one to find the right course. I would also ask treatment centers if they have anyone there who could speak to you & have your questions ready for an interview or take them to lunch & you pay or if a phone interview you would want to send them a thank you. Many addiction couselors are former addicts so remember to interview different people. Some has a family member. I am not a counselor but I have a son who died at age 20, 9 years ago. So be prepared for some real emotional stuff. Thank you friend for putting you on this path. He or She needs to feel they are of some value so it all helps.

I have a friend who has been struggling with her alcoholism for months now. I hate seeing her when she’s so drunk. It’s like seeing a different person. She has gotten more violent too. I want to convince her to get treated but I haven’t gotten to that yet. I figured I’d find a treatment center first and then tell her about the programs and benefits… think that’ll work?

It would probably be good if you can do an alcohol intervention for your friend. Gather her closest friends and family members and then talk to her about her alcoholism. You can also ask an intervention specialist to facilitate. As for treatment centers, the links below will get to help you in finding them. You can also ask around at a local hospital, or go through the local yellow pages.

You could study sociology or social work…Really, with this job, you need a master’s degree, so I can’t see that the bachelor’s really matters too much, so long as you take all the basics required to earn your master’s.

I know you’ve probably got personal reasons for working in this area, but it’s a really tough job. Addictions go back to drugs over and over, and it’s really frustrating to the therapists involved. Burn out is not uncommon.
