Drug Rehabilitation that works

Question by Anonymous: Should i suggest Medical Marijuanna as an alternative to my fathers alcoholism?
My dad has been drinking practically all his life and my grandfather was also an alcoholic. my dad lost his job, his car, and his marriage to alcoholism. I’ve read in articles such as, http://hamsnetwork.org/mm/, that marijuana can be a safer alternative to alcoholism and I’ve been considering it for a while. my father already attends AA meetings but it isn’t working for him at all. I try to convince him that drinking is bad for him, but he just dismisses the conversation and acts like my opinion doesn’t matter because he is older than I am. he tells me that he will be proud to die from drinking but I don’t want that to happen. please let me know what you think about marijuana as an alternative to alcoholism, and if you disagree, I would love to hear other solutions to alcoholism.

it is a very good solution…for you…!!..my point is,your dad has to accept that idea,it has to come from him,he has to WANT to do so,yes it is possible,but only if he has to will to do that…i did the opposite…start to drink beer in order to quit smoking pot,i tought beer helped me to go sleep and bypass the cold turkey,but….now i have a beer problem…wich one is worse?(better)?…but yes…if he can smoke pot without drinking,it is better to do so…he has to go to source of the problem i think the best way to quit addictions is ..first,want to change(obviously your dad wants to since he is AA)…second,take him to a good accupuncturist….it worked for me for other addictions and i’m considering doing it again for my beer/pot habit…good luck!

Besides rehab…I mean that if you are a smoker,,,even a drug addict…all the media/medical addresses the “smoker’s ,etc solution. I grew up with an alcoholic father (my mother died when I was 12)…it’s amazing that there are “patches” for smokers and outside med clinics for various drug addicts……I need someone….a medical organization/medical to help me with my alcoholism…AA has not worked for reasons that I refuse to get in to. To me, regarding alcoholism and especially women with my disease is still a disease that no one wants to address head-on . Please any one of you share. Thx.

There’s this pill you can get (I don’t know the name) where everytime you take a drink you get really sick or throw up. Even just one sip. So it makes you not want to take a drink. If I think of the name I’ll get back to you.

Question by valpogal: How can I get medical insurance for my adult daughter who is addicted to Suboxzone or treatment for it?
She began taking her husband’s pain medication while he was dying from testicular cancer and became addicted to opiates. That was the only way she could cope with the barrage of bill collectors, his pain and their 3 children. After he died, she lost their home, insurance, their cars, everything and now lives with me. Suboxzone is a doctor prescribed treatment for opiate addiction but she is addicted to the treatment! She is in bed every day until 5-6 PM, doesn’t have bowel movements or periods, weighs 90 lbs.and eats almost nothing. If I could get a judge to make her a dependent or my ward, I could get her insurance through my work. I cannot afford to send her to Hazelden or another drug rehab. Please don’t tell me to turn to God. I need legal advice or a rehab grant. I am also supporting my other daughter and her 3 children. Anyone reading this who has a clue on how to save my daughter please respond. Time is running out for her.

You can’t do anything until she is ready noone can force/plead/bully/cry or “make them see” she has to see it for herself. I know that’s not the answer that you want but i know it from experience to be true. She has to see this for herself as much as it hurts you and you might want to get some help for yourself until that happens.

You can’t give an addict sleep medication!?!?!?! Take her to a Doctor do not give her any medications that you “think” she should be on!!!!! or that anyone on here suggest that you use.

Question by soph123: A co-worker recently returned to work after severe medical issues complicated by her alcoholism…?
Upon her return, she has been ostracized by the staff and openly gossiped about by her boss (the owner). He keeps a well stocked bar at the office and it is “open” at 4pm every Friday for anyone who wants to pour a drink – has been for years – even knowing she has a drinking problem, it was always encouraged to have a drink or two on Fridays – including this particular co-worker. Recently, 4pm rolled along and a few girls got themselves a drink and this co-worker also got one – the boss had already left for the afternoon. Some of the girls “tattled” that the recently ill co-worker had a drink so the boss has written her up and told her she had to sign it- it stated that she is not allowed to partake in the open-bar policy on Fridays like the other girls do because she has a drinking problem. Can he legally get away with this??? This would be about a month after he joked after hours with some staff at a restaurant that it was “no panties Thursdays and no bra Fridays” and that the no bra thing was an inside joke because it was clear one Friday that this co-worker was not wearing a bra.
