What are the sequence of steps in damage to the liver (from lowest level of damage to highest level) caused by chronic over-consumption of alcohol?
A) fibrosis, gout and cirrhosis

my dad has liver cirrhosis due to alcohol intake. the doctor has said that a small part of the liver is damaged. i want to know if cirrhosis of liver is completely curable? i have found a lot of sites that say that cirrhosis is not curable but preventable from worsening. if my dad completely stops alcohol intake then is he free from any danger. is it possible that the cirrhosis stops from spreading further? also is it possible that by partial hepatectomy of the diseased part and then subsequent natural regeneration of that part, the cirrhosis is curable?

Although I have not drank any alcohol in 4.8 years, the atrophy of cirrhosis scar tissue has stooped all blood flow through the left lobe of my liver and is now very small in size after initially being enlarged. Does it need to be removed. I also have chronic pancreatitus (16 acute attacks over last 4 years) and my gallbladder was also removed. I am not diabetic. I need advice. I have a liver biopsy scheduled in 3 weeks.

I have cirrhosis of the liver (not through alcohol) and want to know about herbal remedies or acupuncture.

My husband has alcohol liver cirrhosis and is in the nursing home, he was diagnosed 2 months ago. He has been in and out of the hospital. All does is sleeps most of the day and is confused most of the time. His muscles seem to be deteriorating. He has his good days and bad days. The bad days scare me cause he sleeps all day and and is really confused and his belly gets hard and enlarges. He also is on dialysis with kidney failure, just a couple of days where is shunt is, it bled for a couple of days. And one day it wouldn’t stop bleeding, they tried everything they could and they finally got it to stop by putting stitches and burning the tear since the blood wouldn’t clot. I just want to know how long he has left cause the doctor doesn’t tell us anything but he said he’d tried everything and they’re nothing else he can do? I wish he would tell us the truth us something instead of hiding everything from us instead of just that. Can someone please answer my questions?

My boyfriend may have cirrhosis of the liver…chances are really really high…tests are not back yet tho. Can anyone tell me the life expectancy of someone who has this (caused by alcohol) without treatment and with treatment? He drinks beer daily and whiskey sometimes. He also has diabetes. He is 49 yrs old.

My girlfriend is 47 yrs. old and was diagnosed with liver failure do to alcohol. Her kidneys are functioning, although the spleen and colon are still inflamed. She is very jaundice and a lot of fluid in her abdomin. She has been moved from the hospital because there is nothing more they can do for her and transported to a nursing home. After a stay there she is suppose to be moved to Glenbeige. Nothing I have read tells me what her prognosise is. Does anyone have an answer?

I was diagnosed with a fatty liver as a result of a blood test a few years back and was prescribed Deforming and Lovaza what are these medicines used for? from that day on I have been taking only Lovaza and I refused to take Metformin since it says on the bottle “DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICATION” since I like to drink I ditched the Metformin and drank instead now my Triglycereds are 939 and I am not exactly sure if I still have fatty liver but I have been drinking these two years ever since that test. before I had fatty liver I used to eat greasy foods and junk food I would eat a bunch of Mayonniase with every meal but I didn’t really drink that much so I was thinking that my fatty liver was due to my food choices not the drinking.
I know I wont be able to give up drinking completely since I like the taste of alcohol plus my grandfather drinks alot of beer and vodka and he is 74 years old and he has been drinking for a very long time and has no health problems and also my birthday is in 9 more days and I know I wont be able to handle a birthday party without celebrating which includes drinking

yes I am on supplements I take them about 2 times a day are they helping?
yes I am kind of overweight I weight about 254 pounds but this was a while ago I think I lost some weight but I am not exactly sure how much I weight now since I don’t weigh myself except when I go to the doctor and now I have decreased my drinking I only drink friday through sunday and during the week I might have 1 or 2 beers but nothing else am I improving my drinking habits?
