It’s time for me to clean up my act for New Years- drug addiction?

Question by Eraserhead: It’s time for me to clean up my act for New Years- drug addiction?
I’ve been addicted to painkillers for a few years now, and I truly need to stop. I’ve gone cold turkey and the withdrawal symptoms are just terrible, so I end up going back on the drug just so I don’t feel that much pain. I’m addicted to Vicodin by the way.

My question is two fold. One- will I ever feel normal again after stopping? Two- is there a way to get through the withdrawal symptoms, like a way to make the whole ordeal easier?

Help from former addicts is very very much appreciated.

Also, getting professional help to get off isn’t an option. I have to do this alone.
The reason I can’t get help is because the addiction has been my secret. My family is the kind that would disown me if they knew. I also don’t have a car, so I can’t drive to a rehab place without getting a ride and blowing my ‘cover’. I will call Narcotics Anonymous for advice though. That is a great idea

First off, good for you! I think that if you have people surrounding you with support would be good for you. You will feel normal again. I used to pop X on a daily basis (like 5 or more pills sometimes never less than 3) and when I stopped I really don’t know if I had withdrawals. I got depressed and sicker. Just stick it out and do activities to keep your mind off drugs. Good luck.

Question by Michel: Do you think it’s possible for a recovered alcoholic to be able to drink again like non-alcoholics?
I remember reading a while back about a controversial new rehabilitation for alcoholics where they teach you how to control your alcohol intake, not eliminate it. What do you think? Do you think this could work for some alcoholics?

Why is alcholism or drug addiction called a disease when in fact it’s a choice?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 12 Comments »

I’m a recovering alchy & attend drug/alchol classes 4 nites a week, but I’m told as well as the meth heads attending we suffer from a disease of addiction. Why say it’s a disease? NOBODY forced the bottle down my throat nor the crack pipe in anyones face either.
See problem is I attend meetings & recovery groups 4 days a week, The facilitators & counselors all say addiction is a disease. I belive it’s a choice like I said nobody forced anybody to use. Is it just an excuse not too take responsibility for your actions? And by the wikipedia isn’t a reliable source.

What exactly are greenies? I know they are a form of speed, but are they on par with crystal meth? It’s good

that baseball has finally banned this substance. All we need is a bunch of meth addict players running around. Not really sure how they can take a few greenies and then play baseball. I would think it would make their blood pressure high, etc, higher risk for heart attack, stroke, diabetes. It’s a good thing baseball finally banned them. you agree?
