Kenny and so many other homeless folks like him are sick of being told to pack up their tents, throw away their junk and clear out of their “home” — a stretch of green grass and dirt along the banks of San Jose’s Coyote Creek. “It’s ridiculous,” Kenny said. “We just move right back in. So we are walking down the streets of Chicago and this homeless lady was so shocked to see Frankie, because it was Frankie who she saw on TV, that helped her get clean, and the homeless lady has been clean for over a year!!! “Christmas is classified as very sad for a lot of people…” 25th December has drifted somewhat past the Solar solstice (21-22 December – winter in the North, summer in the Southern hemisphere) but so too have many people drifted away from family + friends. Christmas is not only a Christian religious celebration but also has a universal quality because of its being a solstice festival. All the more reason, though, to remember the age-old maxim of “Do to others as you would have done to yourself” which is actually far more ancient than Christianity….. Homelessness – “39% of our clients can be categorised as “homeless” as defined by the Australian Government. They report being dependent on boarding houses or hostel accommodation, crisis shelters, squats, “couch surfing” between friends and relatives, or simply living on the streets. More than 50% of our clients have “slept rough” at some time, usually as a result of family breakdown, unemployment, or alcohol addiction. Other causes of homelessness experienced by our clients are eviction, domestic violence, return from war (especially Vietnam), mental illness, drug addiction and gambling….. Other of our clients rent privately, but it seems many of them only just manage to avoid homelessness. 41% of these private renters share bathroom facilities and 6% are without access to a bathroom at all. 32% share kitchen facilities and 5% have no access to food preparation areas and storage. i cant seem to find the percentage of people in 2009 who are homeless and who have some kind of drug or alcohol addiction…
im trying to back up a statement that says that most homeless people are struggling with a drug/ alcohol addiction but i need exact numbers and a source would be nice.
