Question by Gertie: How to help someone get past their drug addiction?
My husband and I have been together for 16 years and he has for the last few years been going back and forth to jail due to his drug addiction. I have been there to work several jobs at a time to keep us all together. I am even still here and want to be here. I dont want Marriage Advise, I want to know what I can do to try and get him to stop. I can see that he wants to, but everytime he goes to the local health Dept. for the substance abuse counseling its no help. The others there are just there becuase the judge sent them there. He has a great job and with the job unemployment, he cant take the chance to take off and go to a drug rehab.. Do the people in there really want to quit or are they just looking on how to hook up with other addicts. We have been there, and Done That. I want this to work and I know that he can beat this. Please be kind…

Answer by ☮ wнσα. ❤ (saу nσ 2 ѕт๏p ѕigηѕ!) In rehab you have a mixture.
You have people that really want to quit and you have people that have to be there, but don’t plan on quitting.
But if thats not an option, you might try out patient rehab.
Which he will attend a certian number of weeks for a certian number of hours. They will drug test him there.
But if he doesn’t want to quit, he won’t.

Question by Judy: I’ve been sober for 2 years and I’m thinking about relapsing. What can I do for help?
I’m an alcoholic. I’ve been sober for 2 years. Recently, life has thrown me a curve ball and I’m just not where I thought I’d be. I’m forced to start over from scratch. On top of that, I just got out of a very long term relationship and am so hurt about it. Lately, I’ve really been wanting to get a drink. I keep rationalizing it that “I don’t know if I’m *really* alcoholic” “I can handle it now after 2 years” etc. etc. etc.
I don’t have much of a support system and I haven’t been to AA in about 2 years as well. I’ve been keeping sober on my own up to this point but… I’m really lost and even scared. What should I do?
Best answer:
Answer by wilderone74 i think it’s time for an AA meeting, quickly before you loose all you’ve accomplished over the past two years.

Question by rashrash27: Please help me answer the following question ASAP?
A well-known pharmaceutical company, Robins & Robins, is working through a public scandal. Three popular medications which they sell over-the-counter have been determined to be tainted with small particles of plastic explosive. It has not yet been determined where the plastic explosives came from, but over million in inventory is impacted. The inventory is located throughout the Western United States, and it is possible that it has also made its way into parts of Canada. A recall occurs but it is mostly unsuccessful.
Last fall, the FDA had promulgated an administrative rule which stated that all pharmaceutical companies which sold over-the-counter medications must incorporate a special tracking bar code (i.e. UPC bars) on all packaging, to ensure that recalls could be done with very little trouble. This bar code would have cost about $.35 (cents) per package, which would have cost the company nearly million on this batch of inventory.
Robins & Robins lobbied hard against this rule, and managed to get it stopped in the public comments period. They utilized multiple arguments, including the cost (which would be passed on to consumers). They also raised “privacy” concerns, which they discussed simply to get public interest groups upset. (One of the drugs impacted is used for assisting with alcoholism treatment – specifically for withdrawal symptoms and many alcoholics were afraid their use of the drug could be tracked back to them.) Robins & Robins argued that people would be concerned about purchasing the medication with a tracking mechanism included with the packaging and managed to get enough public interest groups against the rule. The FDA decided not to impose the rule.
The FDA decides to require all pharmaceutical companies to immediately implement the tracking bars (UPC) as a result of the disaster with Robins & Robins. Robins & Robins decides not to challenge this and begins the process of adding them to all of their products. However, McFadden, Inc., a New York pharmaceutical realizes that this new requirement is going to bankrupt them immediately. McFadden did not participate in the original public comment period. However, this rule
is different from the rule which went through that public comment period, in that it specifically names 4 companies as being impacted, Robins & Robins, McFadden, Inc., Bayer, and Johnson & Johnson. On what bases can McFadden challenge this requirement imposed by the FDA? Provide at least two bases under the Administrative Procedures Act. Would the injuries from the Robins & Robins situation impact the chances that this challenge would be successful? Why or why not?
Question 2, please help me ASAP
It is discovered that Robins & Robins knew about the tainted medication two months earlier than they announced the recall. They hid it, and in fact, sent out contract buyers to try to buy up all of the medication off the shelves. Their “fake” recall failed. Using the Laura Nash method of analyzing ethical dilemmas, analyze the ethical dilemma faced by the CEO of Robins & Robins for the fact that they saved 35 cents/package and are now in the middle of a major, life threatening recall. Analyze their “fake” recall as well. Show all of the steps of the model and give a recommendation to the CEO of what to do now that the deaths are escalating. What is the “right” thing for the CEO to do in this case? Did the model help you come to this conclusion or did you use some other method? Explain.
Best answer:
Answer by STEPHEN McFadden can challenge the requirement by asserting the cost element and that its implementation would bankrupt them and make the same arguments that Robins & Robins made. Additionally, they could argue that the FDA is estopped by its prior decision to not impose the Rule; this, of course, could be countered by the argument that McFadden waived all arguments against imposition of the Rule by its failure to participate in the earlier public comment period. McFadden could also argue that the FDA is over-reacting to a calamity which could not be foreseen and is so rare an occurrence that it is highly unlikely to happen again, to which the FDA would contend that its statutory authority compels that it impose the Rule. The injuries of the Robins & Robins matter would be the only significant impact which would cause the imposition of the Rule. The two bases: (1) It would not be an abuse of discretion to impose the Rule. (2). The FDA may lawfully take administrative notice of the Robins & Robins calamity.

Question by its Mrs. Dingleberry to you: pregnant & need help understanding my bf’s mentality. He is a recovered drug addict sober X 2 yrs. Seem selfis?
I am so frustrated!!!
I have a bf that is a recovered drug addict and has a criminal past but has done mucho to turn his life around!! I love him. When we met we just “clicked”. There is a discrepancy in our education and incomes (I am the higher paid half) but this makes NO dif to me. I am not a former addict. I work in the medical field and my knowledge and understanding comes from books and individuals I interact with.
The hitch is we are expecting a baby (unexpectedly) but have really warmed to the idea. I have other children and my family has not been unsupportive of this, but is not jumping up and down. We have gotten in numerous fights recently because I am “asking too much of him”. and I AM leaning on him heavily for support due to the situation. But he gets pissed off at me when I get my feelings hurt when he chooses his AA friends or his sponsor over me. He tells me I can never understand why its so important for him to be so selfish because if he’s not then he won’t stay sober. (and sometimes I feel jealous towards these people because its like they have some damn secret club that I can’t be included in)
Good grief!! Of course I don’t want him to change in his sobriety for me! and NO, I’m not an addict, so I can’t claim to “understand”. I want US to be happy…
Can anyone help? Please?
Best answer:
Answer by stephens love Yeah and tell him he will NEVER understand what it is like to be pregnant so be a little more sympathetic to your situation since you have been so understanding of his.
My ex was a drug addict…though not recovering…and was a complete selfish a hole. The best thing I ever did was get rid of him.
Good luck and congrats on the baby.

Question by its Mrs. Dingleberry to you: has anyone dated a recovered drug addict? Feeling left out… please help!!?
My BF and father of my baby due in June is a good person. He is a recovered drug addict & has done a lot to turn his life around. We have a relationship with very deep feelings & a lot of passion.
However, he goes through these periods where he will completely shut me out (mostly when he is struggling with “inner demons” & issues that are hard for him to process). He will also make comments that hurt my feelings like “why do you have to invade on my time?” when we’re apart & I text him. He usually realizes how he has come off & apologizes…
but I’m wondering, what can I do to avoid feeling so hurt & left out when he withdraws inward, or turns toward his NA or AA friends? I know about AlAnon, but any other suggestions?
Best answer:
Answer by Helen W. I don’t know how long your BF has been clean/sober. Some of the things you mention sound like the travails of someone who is fairly new at sobriety and who perhaps hasn’t had the benefit of therapy. If so, then perhaps you could gently suggest that “inner demons” can best be dealt with in therapy; NA/AA is not set up to deal with that sort of thing.
As far as him turning toward his NA/AA friends rather than you, please understand that he has been taught to do that in program. They teach that in times of trouble, one is to turn to the group as a primary resource, under the theory that nonaddicts (“normies”) don’t and can’t understand. Naturally, this can lead to some hurt feelings on the part of the nonaddicted loved ones, but when they complain, this serves as “proof” that indeed, normies don’t understand. It’s kind of a catch-22 and something that the loved ones of 12 step program members struggle with all the time.
As far as Al-Anon or Nar-Anon, my experience with those groups has not been positive; in fact, my therapist suggested that I NOT go to such meetings because I would be, as she put it, “the healthiest one in the room” and would get nothing out of it. Turned out she was right.

Question by Jeremiah: Should i help her get clean?
My EX Girlfriend Leslie recently came to me and asked to help her get clean. She is a drug addict and has been for years. I myself am a recovering addict but i have been clean for 5 years. We used together years ago and she did nothing when i OD and almost died. I still love her but i bore resentment towards her for not helping me in a near death experience. I know she was high and fucked up but i still think she could have done something. I don’t know if she is sincere either. We both went into rehab before i got clean but she quickly relapsed. I think she might just be trying to get back together with me. As much as i would like that i can’t be with her if she is using it threatens my sobriety and is too much of a risk. Should i help her or not?
