Question by its Mrs. Dingleberry to you: has anyone dated a recovered drug addict? Feeling left out… please help!!?
My BF and father of my baby due in June is a good person. He is a recovered drug addict & has done a lot to turn his life around. We have a relationship with very deep feelings & a lot of passion.
However, he goes through these periods where he will completely shut me out (mostly when he is struggling with “inner demons” & issues that are hard for him to process). He will also make comments that hurt my feelings like “why do you have to invade on my time?” when we’re apart & I text him. He usually realizes how he has come off & apologizes…
but I’m wondering, what can I do to avoid feeling so hurt & left out when he withdraws inward, or turns toward his NA or AA friends? I know about AlAnon, but any other suggestions?
Best answer:
Answer by Helen W. I don’t know how long your BF has been clean/sober. Some of the things you mention sound like the travails of someone who is fairly new at sobriety and who perhaps hasn’t had the benefit of therapy. If so, then perhaps you could gently suggest that “inner demons” can best be dealt with in therapy; NA/AA is not set up to deal with that sort of thing.
As far as him turning toward his NA/AA friends rather than you, please understand that he has been taught to do that in program. They teach that in times of trouble, one is to turn to the group as a primary resource, under the theory that nonaddicts (“normies”) don’t and can’t understand. Naturally, this can lead to some hurt feelings on the part of the nonaddicted loved ones, but when they complain, this serves as “proof” that indeed, normies don’t understand. It’s kind of a catch-22 and something that the loved ones of 12 step program members struggle with all the time.
As far as Al-Anon or Nar-Anon, my experience with those groups has not been positive; in fact, my therapist suggested that I NOT go to such meetings because I would be, as she put it, “the healthiest one in the room” and would get nothing out of it. Turned out she was right.
Question by nightcrow_red: I have an addiction to Oxycontin (Vicodoine)seek treatment.Any free Clinic numbers or help lines?
All the other ones costed around 64,000 Dollars to get help, out of my own pocket. I dont have that much… I work for practicly min wage. I’m really serious about getting off of this addiction, and need help. Does anyone know of any numbers, or clinics that can help me out. I dont have official insurance, but have Native American benifets, and tried calling them, but they werent much help. If ANYONE knows of any free clinics for detoxing, and treatment would be greatly appriciated.

Answer by Carlin for Pres. there should be some state funded ones in your area.
i went to one in tx in lubbock.
if you call a local rehab, and tell them your financial situation, someone should be able to direct to one in your state.

Question by Jeremiah: Should i help her get clean?
My EX Girlfriend Leslie recently came to me and asked to help her get clean. She is a drug addict and has been for years. I myself am a recovering addict but i have been clean for 5 years. We used together years ago and she did nothing when i OD and almost died. I still love her but i bore resentment towards her for not helping me in a near death experience. I know she was high and fucked up but i still think she could have done something. I don’t know if she is sincere either. We both went into rehab before i got clean but she quickly relapsed. I think she might just be trying to get back together with me. As much as i would like that i can’t be with her if she is using it threatens my sobriety and is too much of a risk. Should i help her or not?

best to get others involved if u love her and stay away. U have too much history and u can relapse so easily.

Best answer:
Answer by nicole h I think it is really awesome that you kicked your meth habit, but if there is “free money” out there I think children from under privilege families would benefit most.
EDIT: Here is a list of dental schools by state (as the other person suggested). You could call one near where you live and see if they give you an estimate.
Question by Dazy Smith: Drug addiction treatment center can help people or not?
Best answer:
Answer by Artista Yes definitely, you can get over an addiction and detox and a program will help, ESPECIALLY if it is a 12 step or bible based program . That demon will leave if you resist it, But he likes to come back, so get into the word of God and start praying and truly be set free like me. I was battling but now its all gone..Look to the cross, Call upon Jesus, Repent. Ask Him to help. He has never ever let me down.
May God bless you.
This is assuming you are the person with the addiction.
If you arent , please pass on the advice.

Question by sherry p: where would i go for information on how to help with recovery of alcoholism?
i have a ex who is wanting to work things out when he gets out of rehab and starts recovery, i want to help him but i don’t know anything about his recovery and want is best for me to do to help him through this. i live in texas if that helps
Best answer:
Answer by Timothy I’m sure they have AA meetings and i think you should encourage him to participate or continue to go to AA and see if he would like u to go with him, if u would be willing to. Otherwise you can find an AA meeting by maybe talking to the court house, and go find information if your really interested in helping him. I think that it’s outstanding that you are trying to help him through this, i think more people should strive to help people recover when they choose to, because a lot of people never choose to stop. Thank you.
