Alcoholic sober for 12 years, but I really want to drink some good red wine with dinner – Do you think I can?

Question by meetoo: Alcoholic sober for 12 years, but I really want to drink some good red wine with dinner – Do you think I can?
I got sober 12 years ago when my life was a disaster. Booze, drugs and the wild rock n roll lifestyle nearly killed me.

Since then, I have aquired a great life. Wife, 2 kids, a good job…….But, I really want to drink like a nice red wine with good food.

I feel like I’m missing out on one of life’s great pleasures – good wine.

Any alcoholics out there grow out of it, and found themselves able to just drink some occassional wine?

Best answer:

Answer by JonnyMac
Why would you want to risk everything you have, just to have a glass of wine? You are a recovering alcoholic, so you should know of the slippery slope that drinking can be. You claim to have a good life with your wife, kids and job. Don’t be a fool.

Do you think “tough love” is a good method to assist people with alcoholism and other forms of addiction?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 1 Comment »

Question by : Do you think “tough love” is a good method to assist people with alcoholism and other forms of addiction?
My aunt is an alcoholic, and it is really putting a lot of strain on my family. I went to see one of the social-workers at SANCA (the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence). she suggested my family and I go for a course on “tough-love” to rectify the situation. Whilst I acknowledge that our current approach (giving her money etc when she needs it), is not working, tough love seems cruel to me. I definitely do not want my aunt (who is currently unemployed) to land up on the street. I feel she would probably sink even deeper into her alcoholism as living on the streets is very traumatic. Moreover, the monetary decisions are not in my hands – they are decided by my father and uncle (who support her). I do not want to encourage my family to take an approach to my aunt’s addiction that would cause irreparable psychological damage.

What are your views on this matter?

Thanks to all who answer, I appreciate your input.

Tough Love is a strong approach. It requires you to draw a boundary and stick to it. If you are not willing to keep to the established boundaries you set up it will not help.

Alcoholics begin their road to recovery when they hit bottom. This can be different for each individual. I have known some who lost a job and that was enough. I know others who ended up homeless and in a run down motel decided it was enough.

I do not know what it will take for your Aunt to hit bottom. I suspect your father and uncle make it relatively easy for her to keep her patterns of use.

I want to connect you to an article about how to stop enabling.

The damage resulting from the alcoholism may be worse than any psychological damage that may occur.

Where to find a good hazelton drug rehab ?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB Comments Off

Question by Michelle: Where to find a good hazelton drug rehab ?
Hi, I am living in Hazelton, USA and I am looking for a good Hazelton Drug Rehab for a friend of mine. What do you think I should consider when looking for the “perfect” drug rehab program ?

Best answer:

Answer by Renee
Well, you should consider many things when choosing your hazelton drug rehab. I think it depends on your friend’s level of severity with the drug addiction and if you have or not the financial budget that may require sending someone to a rehab program. The particular case of your friend’s addiction will determine the related program (inpatient, outpatient, counseling, etc..). Anyway, I will advise you to review many programs available in Hazelon. Call them if necessary to gather as much information as you can and compare them. You can also validate the effectiveness of the program according the years of drug rehab experience and possibly find and talk to old patient who successfully had their drug rehab. If you have not the financial support or insurance you need, try to locate a christian rehab center in your city, because most of them provide free aids.

Question by larsonater@rocketmail.com: Where can I find a good drug rehab facility in Fl?
I am looking for drug rehab facility in the South FL area. Can any one recommend me some?

Best answer:

Answer by J. Scott
There are quite a few actually, it just depends where in South Florida you are exactly, and the type of treatment you are looking for. There’s a full service rehab facility with dual diagnosis treatment called C.A.R.E. Florida. There is a Holistic minded addiction treatment center called Ambrosia Treatment Center. There is an out-patient treatment program called Foundations Boca. There is even a luxury drug rehab center located in a mansion called Estates Delray. And of course for successful transition back into society there are gender specific half way houses called Boca House for Men, and Awakenings for Women.

Hope this helps you. Below I’ve listed the websites of these facilities to provide you with any additional information.

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 7 Comments »

Question by Cammy Models: Hunns, what’s a good gift for a recovered alcoholic?
Hunns, one of my best friends recently made 100 days as a recovered alcoholic. I could not be prouder of her. I want to show her how proud I am of her by doing a few nice things for her. I’ve had Chef bake her a darling rum cake (her favorite) and I’ve decided to take her on a girls weekend to the California wine country…just give her a few nice days of fun and relaxation. I also want to give her a gift, but I can’t decide what it should be. Any suggestions hunns?
