Question by firequeenp: has anyone ever dated an alcoholic and drug addict (recovered), when u have a few drinks & it work out?
i have been talking to this guy and just found out that he is a recovered drug addict/alcoholic. he has been sober for 7 years. he is a great guy and we have alot in common, but i have no experience with someone like this.
i myself, am not a huge drinker, but i do like to have a few drinks when i am out or at a concert or something. also i smoke pot, socially. i would have no problem not doing that around him, but i just wonder if it is even worth it to see where this goes. does a relationship like this have a future?
i don’t want to get my or his hopes up and continue this on if we’re not compatible in the long term because he is sober and i like to have the occasional drink/joint.
like i said i have never dated anyone with any substance abuse problems before, so it just makes me a little nervous. i have dated potheads that don’t drink and drinkers that don’t smoke, but never someone who doesn’t do both, and for that reason (addiction). advice, thoughts, experiences please

Answer by kandi8366 Wont work, my boyfriend is a recovering alcoholic, and when we started dating I knew that I wouldn’t drink again. I never liked drinking but occasionally I did drink. But since I love him and want to be with him and want him healthy and alcohol free I would never drink. Its the only way a relationship like that would work.

Question by Yamster Berry’s Buddy: What are the signs of alcoholism? I drink 3 or 4 drinks a night, 27 out of 30 nights. Alcoholism?
I never have trouble getting to work and my marriage does not seem to suffer. I drink quite a lot. I never drink and drive. I never feel hung-over. I don’t feel like there are short term effects but maybe long term effects?
Opinions?

Answer by Lacey Can you go without alcohol without feeling like you’re missing out on something? Do you feel any adverse effects when you don’t drink?
You are definitely taking a toll on your liver and metabolism, though.

Question by Kobe: If a person has 5 to 6 drinks a day is it considered alcohol abuse or alcoholism?
I personally don’t think it’s that bad even though it’s more than the recommended limit. As long as the people are not drinking and driving or drinking at work I don’t see why 5 or 6 drinks per day is bad considering that most alcoholics probably have at least a 12 pack per day. What do you think?
instead of “or” I should have put a slash /

Answer by sistamachete yup, but its only bad if you can’t go a day without em

I drink an entire bottle of red wine by myself roughly two nights a week. Can this be considered excessive, and could I develop problems such as cirrhosis later on down the road? Regardless of the potential health benefits of moderate consumption of red wine, and even though I rarely drink beer or hard liquor, alcohol is still alcohol. A penny for your thoughts…

Whenever I drink a sugary alcoholic drink, my heart will start to hurt with in five minutes. My heart starts to beat faster and there is a strong pain. This can last for a few hours depending on how much of the drink I have consumed. It seems to go away after I have peed a few times. Drinks that do this to me are things like Mike’s hard lemon aid and Smirnoff. I am fine with drinks like beer and liquor. I am going to go to the doctor soon, but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as I have. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I have been a over drinking for around say 4 years may be more but not a full blown alcoholic in the physical sense.
I had a discussion in with my wife about drinking sensibly and next week I am going without a drink to see how I really feel about drinking physically and phychologically.
I do not want to stop drinking as in teetotal as that to me is extreme and I enjoy a beer and a wine and would not deny myself the pleasure. But I do not want to drink where it is unhealthy but have a healthy sustainable enjoyment that maybe be beneficial..
I am 38, 6′ 2″ and weigh 220 lbs.
Some advice would be nice that I could use and give me food for thought as I develop my practice and attitude to a more healthier way of life.
