The main goal would be to help the individual in such a way that he would not turn to drugs to offend the law again. This will be able to lower the crime rate. Treatment should continue even after the offender has been discharged from jail. This is because he would be coming back to the same environment that got him started in doing drugs. Treatment will be able to keep him from relapsing. Treatments within the criminal justice system can also cut drug abuse in half.
