What is the connection between alcoholism & male fertility?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 5 Comments »

If a guy drank heavily for many years, then stayed sober for many years, would his ability to impregnate a woman disappear, or be at all diminished, as a result of his years as a hard-core alcoholic? In other words, would he not have to worry about using any birth control because in his situation it was rendered unnecessary due to the negative effects of long-term drinking? And would such bad effects, if indeed they had kicked in, have been canceled out by a long period of sobriety after the drinking years?

Is there a connection between SIDS and drug abuse?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 1 Comment »

My question is purely informational, I’m just curious. I’ve known a few people who’s babies have died of SIDS and they were all drug addicts. Heroine, meth, oxy etc… the cause of death on all the babies was SIDS. I’m just wondering if there is a correlation? Are there any studies done on SIDS that might help?

Connection between Meth use and Hypothyroidism?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 3 Comments »

First of all, I will start by saying that I am a recovering meth addict and have been clean since 02/06/06. After I got clean, I gained weight, as I knew I would, but it hasn’t stopped! I finally saw a doctor a week ago, and I was diagnosed with a slightly under active thyroid, which she says will only continue to get worse and I must have it checked every 2 months. At this point they are not looking into treatments for the disease, as it is at the borderline for under activity.

It just hit me today that this may be a result of my own past actions! So, I haven’t had to the chance to ask my doctor just yet. Does anyone out there know if there could be a connection between an under active thyroid and the abuse of meth? Could I have caused this myself?
Please, I don’t need undermining comments about my past abuse of drugs…I know it was wrong, I have completely changed the way I live my life. If you don’t know the answer to the question, don’t waste my time with your rude remarks–they help NO ONE.
I’m not complaining about the weight gain, I knew I would gain weight…only makes sense to. I was wondering if my meth use could have caused my condition of having hypothyroid.
I did not have this condition prior to my abuse of drugs. I’ve been clean for 2 1/2 years and it is just surfacing now.
