There are some good studies that have shown that an effective way to prevent problems with alcohol and drugs is for parents to talk to their teenagers the summer before going to college about the dangers of these substances. Three reasons why college is more dangerous for students is there is no parental control, about half the population at college are of legal drinking age and they will likely want to experiment more. It is important for parents to discuss what dangers their children will be exposed to, as teenagers can develop chronic alcohol problems and drink at higher levels which can lead to alcohol poisoning. College campuses are trying to come up with ways to combat this problem. For instance, San Diego State has initiated a program called “Aztec Nights” during the first six weeks (which is the highest risk time) to give college students something to do besides drinking at night. They put together student groups and planned concerts and other activities and they serve free food and non-alcoholic drinks. This has been a great success, as alcohol poisoning and alcohol-related arrests went down dramatically. I live in a very stressful enviorment, MY mom and dad are always putting the heat on me, They want me to do community college full time while working a full time job, They are also really agressive and always get mad at me although iam just trying to help. theres alot of alcoholism in my family, and Iam really feeling the brunt of it. I want to go to school, but I cant afford it, Iam not even sure I have the time for it, plus no one will accept me, I have a 3.5 GPA, and was in three national honor societies, and was an eagle scout. I was thinking about about getting in to a 4 year college and take a loan to get away from here and just concentrate on my schooling, as that would not be possible here at the community level living with my parents any suggestions?
If I cant do community college or online courses is there another way?
Iam 20 I have been out of highschool for 3 years, I would really like a new surrounding, I am having colleges push me off for the 4 year universities, I dont know what much I can do to get accepted, I am missing a math credit from highschool, and no froeign languages.
