What causes a mother to neglect children?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 4 Comments »

i dont mean just the child abuse that is found in lower class trailors with meth addicts. but child neglect happens in so called good families who go to good schools. so what is it? do these kids grow up and acheive some or alot of sucess just by being around good families and schools and opportunities despite how evil the parents are and one day realized thta they never had a chance… it catches up to them?
is it a failure of a father? a narcissistic mother? a mother guilting their children for life until they kil themselves for the fathers lacking?
i think i have a bad COMBINATION of things in my parents total trainwreck of a marriage that they insist on beating and beating everything more and more.

my sister is a sociopath personality. DEEP seeded shit in the mother. and she caused me all kinds of hell but eventually was like crossing the streams in ghostbusters to my head. the father is a failure as a father and the mother perhaps does have traumatizing things from a child rape? but she is crazy as hell, narcissistic… too embarassed to get help or talk about anything.. she CANT let go.. i have never heard her breath easy. she is in politics now too!!! what a fucked up world/country. perhaps she had children or did one thing after another to counter the fathers failure(s) or further denial by not opening up to friends.. she has friends who is a female judge and all about flashing money. her kids are flat out evil shits.. they will walk into a room univited and break things and laugh. aunts, unclesand grandparents r bett

Substance Abuse Funding Cut In Illinois impacts Women in Recovery with Children!

Uncategorized Comments Off

Over 42000 people in the State of Illinois are being impacted by the Illinois Budget Cuts of 43% or $110000000 for funding to help those “afflicted” with the diseases of substance abuse and alcoholism. This video describes the despair of one courageous mother who has been “impacted” and forced to move out of a recovery program with her children to a homeless shelter. She represents the despair other people are facing as they are moving out of successful substance abuse programs that offer housing, supportive services, access to treatment, healthcare, education, job training, jobs, and affordable housing. People in recovery are being forced to move out of programs that lead to self-sufficiency and independence and move into homeless shelters, churches and the streets. This funding cut will result in costly burdens on the Criminal Justice System, protective services, emergency healthcare. Countless lives and families and entire communities are “at risk” of spiraling out of control without services. (studies show $1 spent on treatment saves $7 in other social services). Please comment: Should the State of Illinois help these people who want and are getting clean and sober and becoming productive members of society or should the State cut funding? Your comment and opinion will “make a difference” and help change policy, to support programs that saves lives and saves taxpayer dollars in Illinois and possibly the Country.

The Santa Delusion / Richard Dawkins for Little Children

ADDICTION NEWS Comments Off

I think one reason that Richard Dawkins is so insistent that we share his non-belief in God is that this would be a necessary first step before we can share his belief that he is — quite literally — the smartest thing in the universe. Well, I don’t see why the refutation of erroneous, if reassuring, beliefs should be limited to those held by adults. So, here’s something for the kids. Comments and questions welcome. The Impact On Children Who Parents Are Alcoholics Or Drug Addicts / Educational Video PSA

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 25 Comments »

The Impact On Children Who Parents Are Alcoholics Or Drug Addicts / Educational Video PSA. Children in families experiencing alcohol or drug abuse need attention, guidance and support. They may be growing up in homes in which the problems are either denied or covered up. These children need to have their experiences validated. They also need safe, reliable adults in whom to confide and who will support them, reassure them, and provide them with appropriate help for their age. They need to have fun and just be kids. Families with alcohol and drug problems usually have high levels of stress and confusion. High stress family environments are a risk factor for early and dangerous substance use, as well as mental and physical health problems. It is important to talk honestly with children about what is happening in the family and to help them express their concerns and feelings. Children need to trust the adults in their lives and to believe that they will support them. Children living with alcohol or drug abuse in the family can benefit from participating in educational support groups in their school student assistance programs. Those age 11 and older can join Alateen groups, which meet in community settings and provide healthy connections with others coping with similar issues. Being associated with the activities of a faith community can also help. Dependence on alcohol and drugs is our most serious national public health problem. It is prevalent among rich and poor, in all regions of the country, and all ethnic and social groups. Millions of Americans misuse or are dependent on alcohol or drugs. Most of them have families who suffer the consequences, often serious, of living with this illness. If there is alcohol or drug dependence in your family, remember you are not alone. Most individuals who abuse alcohol or drugs have jobs and are productive members of society creating a false hope in the family that “it’s not that bad.” The problem is that addiction tends to worsen over time, hurting both the addicted person and all the family members. It is especially damaging to young children and adolescents. People with this illness really may believe that they drink normally or that “everyone” takes drugs. These false beliefs are called denial; this denial is a part of the illness. Alcoholism and other drug addiction have genetic and environmental causes. Both have serious consequences for children who live in homes where parents are involved. More than 28 million Americans are children of alcoholics; nearly 11 million are under the age of 18. This figure is magnified by the countless number of others who are affected by parents who are impaired by other psychoactive drugs. Alcoholism and other drug addiction tend to run in families. Children of addicted parents are more at risk for alcoholism and other drug abuse than are other children. Children of addicted parents are the highest risk group of children to become alcohol and drug abusers due to both genetic and family environment factors. Biological children of alcohol dependent parents who have been adopted continue to have an increased risk (2-9 fold) of developing alcoholism. Recent studies suggest a strong genetic component, particularly for early onset of alcoholism in males. Sons of alcoholic fathers are at fourfold risk compared with the male offspring of non-alcoholic fathers. Use of substances by parents and their adolescent children is strongly correlated; generally, if parents take drugs, sooner or later their children will also. Adolescents who use drugs are more likely to have one or more parents who also use drugs. The influence of parental attitudes on a child’s drug taking behaviors may be as important as actual drug abuse by the parents. An adolescent who perceives that a parent is permissive about the use of drugs is more likely to use drugs. Public Service Announcement from SAMHSA in the public domain.
