MaximsNewsNetwork: 05 July 2010 – UNTV: Kiribati, Pacific Islands – In Kiribati, one of the least developed Pacific island nations, alcohol abuse is pushing people to practice corporal punishment on young children; UNICEF and the government of Kiribati are working together to establish routine birth registration immediately after a child is born. It is customary in Kiribati for women to take in children in need and when children are subjected to violence, they are now encouraged to speak up. SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Sana, adoptive parent: “When I took the girl her cheeks were bruised, and she was bleeding from the corner of her eye. Her mouth was cut up, and her back, legs and neck were severely scratched.” SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Bara, adoptive parent: “This is the place where I saw Bas getting beaten up by the couple that was known as her adoptive parents. The adoptive dad said, “It’s better to kill that baby, rather than hurting her so bad. I told the adoptive mom that I will take care of the baby and bring her to my house.” SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Sana, adoptive parent: “The child had really bad bruises and scratches and her head was dislocated.” “My husband and I promised the police to take good care of her no hitting or spanking.” “The first time she came to my family her thinking was different from other normal kids.
Question by : Should I allow my children to see their father in a drug treatment center?!?
My love and the father of my children is taking part in a six month rehabilitation program, because hes a heroine addict. He has been an IV drug user for about six months, and finally checked himself in because he claims he really wants help and wants to be a part of my and the kids life. I just don’t know if its a good idea to take my children, who are two and four, to visit their father. I mean hes in there with a whole bunch of people like him who have some sort of drug problem and I dont know if it would be appropriate for my babies to be around people like that. I mean I know that they need to see their dad and its already been a few weeks which is a really long time for my four year old who has seen her dad everyday of her little life before this. She really wants to see him and really misses him. She blames herself that she can’t see daddy and that he can’t live with us right now; I think her being able to see him and see that hes okay would help her be okay with the whole situation. I just don’t know if they should be in that kind of enviroment. I told her that he was sick and had to go to the hospital, I just dont want it to hurt them anymore. Another thing is in one month he can leave the facility for a few hours… should I just wait!??

Best answer:

Answer by Bobydob
i think you should take the children to see their dad…you dont say if youve visited yourself, but usually these centres never have any tell tale signs that the patients are drug users, and obviously everybody there is clean for the duration of their stay, so they will be reletavely normal people….why dont you go on your own first and see what you think?

Question by texassweetheart27: I am looking for a drug treatment center that i can take my children with me, how do i find them?????
i know that there are several places that offer treatment and allow you to bring your kids but i dont know how to find them, please help…..
i would rather my children not go to treatment with me,but its the only option i have.there is noone that is willing or is able to take care of them while im away, and i do not want to lose them.

Best answer:

Answer by James Watkin
You need to go to treatment alone and let your kids stay with their dad or grandparents. Why should they have to witness people puking and shaking and pooping on themselves and screaming and freaking out and sweating while going through withdrawal? You already put them through enough.

Then check yourself in and get help and arrange for whoever is caring for them to bring them for family sessions. Because you aren’t being a good parent on drugs so your wanting to parent them continually is a joke. You need to get yourself together away from them so you can be honest about the part of the parenting you are screwing up. And you cannot do that worrying about feeding and bathing and looking after them.

Go get help and let them be kids. And enjoy life away from you for a while. Don’t use them as a crutch not to get help. Kids would rather be away from a druggy parent for a year than be with one for a second. If it means they will soon have some normalcy in their lives.

If you are still hell bent on dragging them through it with you, call your local United Way and ask for drug addiction resources in your area. Then call all the numbers you get and ask your question. Eventually someone will be able to help you.

Give your answer to this question below!
