Question by nightcrow_red: I have an addiction to Oxycontin (Vicodoine)seek treatment.Any free Clinic numbers or help lines?
All the other ones costed around 64,000 Dollars to get help, out of my own pocket. I dont have that much… I work for practicly min wage. I’m really serious about getting off of this addiction, and need help. Does anyone know of any numbers, or clinics that can help me out. I dont have official insurance, but have Native American benifets, and tried calling them, but they werent much help. If ANYONE knows of any free clinics for detoxing, and treatment would be greatly appriciated.

there should be some state funded ones in your area.

i went to one in tx in lubbock.

if you call a local rehab, and tell them your financial situation, someone should be able to direct to one in your state.

Q&A: Addiction to Vicodin and treatment?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 1 Comment »

Question by Rough times: Addiction to Vicodin and treatment?
My husband has been addicted to vicodin for about 4 years now. He is taking about 20 pills per day. His doctor called me and I told him the truth, that my husband is abusing the drug and buying them off of the streets and he needs help. Needless to say my husband is really mad at me. The doctor is putting him on methadone treatment and cut his vicodin prescription in half and now my husband is scared, saying he wont be able to work while taking methadone because it’s supposed to make you really drowsy. I am so out of my element here. I’ve never known anyone who was a drug addict and now I’m married to one. Are there any physicians or people with experience here to can help me to understand what he will be facing here. I feel like just running away from this sometimes but he needs my help.

rehab is the way to go. if it was just a year or some months then i’d say cold turkey is the way to go, but for that long, its pretty much like a heroin addict (just not so bad, trust me i’ve known all kinds of addicts). but start off by helping him keep his mind off the drug, thats the first step. most drug users do there drug of choice when there is nothing else around to do. but if all else fails, he NEEDS rehab. good luck.

Cultural differences in alcohol use, addiction and treatment – UK pub culture?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 2 Comments »

Question by h: Cultural differences in alcohol use, addiction and treatment – UK pub culture?
In the UK, people don’t meet for a coffee, they meet for a pint (or cocktail, whatever). Alcohol use is embedded in the social fabric – what might elsewhere be understood as mild alcoholism is easily accepted as normal – to the point that it’s not unusual for people to turn up for work with a hangover (or take a sick day to nurse a bad one). I think there’s resistance to the disease or genetic theory of alcoholism – people have ‘drink problems’, or just ‘like having a good time’, or are ‘being sociable’. This applies to all classes + groups: binge-drinking students + city workers; football fans; families (children are often welcome in pubs)…

To be abstinent, as is demanded of many alcohol treatment programmes, is to be a pariah. On top of that I think mental illness in general is largely taboo…

What are treatment strategies that make sense in this context, then? How do you help someone with a ‘drink problem’ who’s in sync with his culture?

Any thoughts are welcome…

The thing is! This drink culture is huge! I live in Scotland and I drink everyday, i love the feeling of downing a crisp cool pint, but that pint always turns into more!! Normally a total binge on beer, vodka, shot, absinthe, whisky. Anything that makes me drunk quickly. I dont know if I have a problem because here it is totally normal behaviour, but I do find myself “needing” a pint! Maybe its this dull, drab society that leads us scots to drink! But yet again – thats wot Scotlands famous for!

What is Love Addiction? | Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB Comments Off

www.SafeHarborHouse.com Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women is nationally recognized as the premier Women’s Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Facility in Southern California. Sex and Love Addiction With Tiger Woods in the media spotlight, the debate has sprung up yet again. Is overindulgence in vices like sex, drugs and alcohol a symptom of an authentic illness, or is it just plain poor decision-making? When an individual has an addiction to something that doesn’t sound like fun, for example self-mutilation or vomiting, people are less apt to argue about the addiction’s validity as a disease. But when it comes to things that the average person enjoys doing and is capable of doing in moderation, like drinking or having sex, the public is much more likely to assume that all people have the same level of control that they possess when engaging in these activities. Labeling those whose lives are crumbling to pieces around them as the result of an addiction, like Tiger Woods, as ‘sleazebags’ or ‘idiots’ is unproductive. Infidelity and alcohol abuse are never good hobbies to take up, but there is much more at work than poor decision-making for those addicted to destructive behaviors. True addicts need treatment if they want to return to living normally. Without treatment, their addiction will continue to run (and ruin) their lives. How Effective is Suboxone Treatment For Opiate Addiction?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB Comments Off

Question by Cher E: How Effective is Suboxone Treatment For Opiate Addiction?
My nephew has been addicted to oxycodone for almost five years. He claims he takes between 120 and 150mgs every 4 or 5 hours. He also crushes Oxycontin and snorts it when he can get it. He was on methadone for a year and did not tell anyone that he was high as a kite on methadone. Once his dosage was reduced, he relapsed and started with the oxycodone again. This has cost him a small fortune, not to mention what it has done to his mental and physical well being. He is now going to try Suboxone treatment. I have read the information on Suboxone. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience with suboxone treatment, good or bad. Addiction is a nasty disease, and I am well aware that it is a family probem. He tells me he became addicted to Percocet after having dental work done, and in no time he was taking large amounts of oxycodone. He is now desperate. He has lost his job and cannot afford rapid detox. Any input would be appreciated.

Answer by Snout
It’s not a bad option, particularly if he was getting too high on therapeutic doses of methadone.

Suboxone is not as potent in its opioid effects as methadone, and in therapeutic doses partly blocks the opiate receptors of the brain, making using additional opioids unrewarding.

He seems to be taking very large doses of oxycodone, though: suboxone may not be potent enough to control his cravings. He will need a lot of support, especially in the initial stages.
