Question by Philip G: What can I get from an addiction treatment center?
I have been thinking about admitting myself into an addiction treatment center. But I am not sure of what will happen once I’m in it. I want to find out what their treatments are and what can work best for me.
Best answer:
Answer by Katrina C An addiction treatment center can really help you. There are a lot of treatments you can choose from based on your needs.
Some treatments are detoxification, behavioral cognitive therapy and medication. Detoxification is a process where all the substances are washed out from your system. The procedure is painful so physicians prescribe their patients with medication that gives them the same feeling of being high on the addictive substance which leads to the gradual reduction in substance dosage. Therapy will include some counseling sessions and you can also join support groups. These can help you find new perspective that can help you lose your cravings. And while you are undergoing behavioral cognitive therapy, medication is given so you will not have relapse.
You can try searching for addiction treatment centers within your area. Get in touch with them so they can explain to you the kinds of treatment they have. I am sure they are the people who can best help you.

Question by alisa a: How does addiction treatment for criminals work?
What are the goals?
Best answer:
Answer by ayla w The main goal would be to help the individual in such a way that he would not turn to drugs to offend the law again. This will be able to lower the crime rate. Treatment should continue even after the offender has been discharged from jail. This is because he would be coming back to the same environment that got him started in doing drugs. Treatment will be able to keep him from relapsing. Treatments within the criminal justice system can also cut drug abuse in half.
