MaximsNewsNetwork: 05 July 2010 – UNTV: Kiribati, Pacific Islands – In Kiribati, one of the least developed Pacific island nations, alcohol abuse is pushing people to practice corporal punishment on young children; UNICEF and the government of Kiribati are working together to establish routine birth registration immediately after a child is born. It is customary in Kiribati for women to take in children in need and when children are subjected to violence, they are now encouraged to speak up. SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Sana, adoptive parent: “When I took the girl her cheeks were bruised, and she was bleeding from the corner of her eye. Her mouth was cut up, and her back, legs and neck were severely scratched.” SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Bara, adoptive parent: “This is the place where I saw Bas getting beaten up by the couple that was known as her adoptive parents. The adoptive dad said, “It’s better to kill that baby, rather than hurting her so bad. I told the adoptive mom that I will take care of the baby and bring her to my house.” SOUNDBITE (Ikiribati) Sana, adoptive parent: “The child had really bad bruises and scratches and her head was dislocated.” “My husband and I promised the police to take good care of her no hitting or spanking.” “The first time she came to my family her thinking was different from other normal kids. She was scared of people, and she liked to stay alone without others touching her.” SOUNDBITE (English) Baram, social worker, Ministry of Social Affairs

I am so sorry to hear this. addiction is a very serious psychological problem. did you ever think about getting her help. like sending her to rehab. i know that sounds extrem. but if its really that bad then thats what u have to do. the thing with addicts, they need to be whiling to change, if not…they wont! some might have to hit rock bottom before they finally realize what they are do to themselves and their family. try and get your family together and have a heart to heart conversation with her. maybe something is really bothering her thats making her do this.

take care.
I hope for the best for you& your family.

In part 2 of 3 of Chris Wallace’s interview with Rush Limbaugh, he asked Rush about healthcare reform. Rush said that it’s an attempt by the government to steal 1/6 of the private sector economy and take control. Once they get control of healthcare, they will be able to make more decisions about how we run our lives. Rush does not think individual mandates, forcing Americans to purchase health insurance, is constitutional. Wallace also asks Rush about the success of Glenn Beck. Rush also discussed his efforts to buy an NFL franchise, the St. Louis Rams, and how the Obama campaign played a role. Wallace also asked him about his statement that going to drug rehab was the best thing that ever happened to him.

College Freshmen and Substance Abuse

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION Comments Off

There are some good studies that have shown that an effective way to prevent problems with alcohol and drugs is for parents to talk to their teenagers the summer before going to college about the dangers of these substances. Three reasons why college is more dangerous for students is there is no parental control, about half the population at college are of legal drinking age and they will likely want to experiment more. It is important for parents to discuss what dangers their children will be exposed to, as teenagers can develop chronic alcohol problems and drink at higher levels which can lead to alcohol poisoning. College campuses are trying to come up with ways to combat this problem. For instance, San Diego State has initiated a program called “Aztec Nights” during the first six weeks (which is the highest risk time) to give college students something to do besides drinking at night. They put together student groups and planned concerts and other activities and they serve free food and non-alcoholic drinks. This has been a great success, as alcohol poisoning and alcohol-related arrests went down dramatically. There are also many great programs available to parents who want to help their kids get through the critical transition from high school to college. Everyone wants to see her go to treatment. But just organizing the intervention is tearing them apart. Hubert is a middle-aged American Indian man whose struggles to keep his family together amidst an abusive childhood at the hands of his alcoholic stepfather, along with the pressure to protect his siblings from the verbal, emotional and physical violence from his alcoholic parents, eventually drive him to the bottle as well during his life in Las Vegas as a bartender. Hubert moved back to Los Angeles to care for his dying diabetic mother, but after her death, his alcohol abuse worsens. His stepfather, showing “Tough love”, kicks Hubert out of the house and Hubert becomes homeless, depending on recycling bottles and cans for booze money. Another homeless friend, John, a bipolar who is non-compliant with medication, helps take care of Hubert on the streets by feeding him, buying him alcohol and helping him find safe places to sleep at night. No longer driven by the idea that “life will be better when I get this job, that girl or whatever it may be..” Sober today I may have dreams, and make steps toward the future based on real life, real life as it is. I can be open, honest and willing, share my hopes and put in the foot work today. Unrealistic dreams are resentments under construction… How do we look after ourselves? My late father, said to me many years ago, “I wished I had cherished your mother more and been less superficial and indifferent” Dad never found recovery. Those words, cherish, superficial and indifferent help me every day. To cherish always and be aware of superficiality and indifference.. That is all anybody can do” -/- We learn to cherish ourselves and everyone, just as we may be today.. As Bill Sees It ~ Foundation for Life… We discover that we receive guidance for our lives to just about the extent that we stop making demands upon God to give it to us on order and on our terms. In praying, we ask simply that throughout the day God place in us the best understanding of His will that we can have for the day, and that we be given the grace by which we may carry it out There is a direct linkage among self-examination, meditation, and

Amino Acid Therapy for alcoholism or substance abuse issues?

ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION 1 Comment »

Question by Ernie: Amino Acid Therapy for alcoholism or substance abuse issues?
Does anyone have any experience with this newer treatment. It is based on replenishing lacking brain chemicals which are causing a “reward deficiency” . The Amino acids are given either through IV or orally. Is this medically accepted? More importantly does it work to prevent relapses? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by metcalfmaintenance1
I’ve never heard of it but I’ve been in recovery for six years and ironically chose to go the fitness route. I’ve used amino acids for protein synthesis. If a by product is relapse prevention I would be amazed. The best way to stay sober/clean is not to take that first drink/drug. Find a support group , a sponsor , and a good 12 step program.
