Treatment for a gaming addiction?

DRUG ADDICTION REHAB 10 Comments »

Question by Serena: Treatment for a gaming addiction?
I won’t get into TOO much detail, because I could go on for hours typing all of my husband’s issues and how much it’s breaking my heart. He basically has an addiction to a computer game and it’s ruining our marriage. He plays 16-18 hours per day, every single day that he’s home. He hardly sleeps. He works offshore for 2 weeks, then is home for 2 weeks, so for those 2 weeks, he plays non-stop and ignores me. It’s not a hobby, and he cannot stop. He’s admitted he is addicted, but doesn’t realise that continuing what he’s doing is going to ruin our relationship. I tell him all the time that if he doesn’t stop, I’m leaving, but I don’t want to leave him – I want my husband back.

He wasn’t like this when we got married 5 years ago. He was a sweet, considerate, loving, attentive husband. He started playing this game a few years ago, and everything has been downhill since then. He plays with people who are unemployed and single or divorced, so they convince him I’m a terrible, controlling nag who is being unreasonable by asking him to limit his gaming hours. They also threaten to ruin his “achievements” and high ranking in the game if he doesn’t put in long hours. Even with how much time he does spend, they still complain it’s not enough. It’s like he’s been brainwashed.

If our house were to burn down, I would put every cent I have on him rescuing his laptop before rescuing me.

He can’t even sit at the dinner table without bringing his laptop. I go to work at 8am (often after being woken up by his typing/talking at 4am), leaving behind a clean house, and come home at 6pm to a messy disaster that he expects me to clean up. He doesn’t say thank you for anything I do for him, and he’s become a selfish child. I even stopped doing his laundry, hoping he’d manage to do his own washing in those long hours he spends at home everyday, but he just wore dirty clothes that ended up smelling disgusting.

I’m at my breaking point. I shouldn’t have to do everything around the house, when he’s at home all day. I like cleaning the house myself, because I am a bit OCD about cleaning, but we both live there, so I shouldn’t be doing 100% of the work. Any jobs around the house that have to do with maintenance (cleaning gutters, lawn mowing, etc), I do on the weekends. So, I work from 8am to 6pm every day, come home to clean the house and do the laundry, then spend the majority of my weekends on other tasks around the house. I have a husband that is at home for 2 weeks straight with nothing to do, so why is this all my responsibility?

The only time I’m happy any more is the two weeks when he’s away, or the rare 10 or 15 minutes when his game is down for maintenance and he actually pays attention to me. I’m not a needy person at all. I like my space and enjoy alone time, but he completely neglects me. If this was a hobby that he did during the day when I was at work, then spent time with me when I came home, even for an hour or two, I wouldn’t have an issue. However, he barely says hello to me when I walk in the door. If I say hello too loud or go to give him a kiss, he complains that he’s too busy. It may sound like he’s grown to hate me, but he’s convinced that our marriage is perfect and that we’re both happy. When he’s away and calls me, he’s my husband again, because he doesn’t have his game to play. However, within 2 minutes of arriving home, he’s back on his computer.

I’d only like serious answers from people who have been where I am, or who can offer real advice. I know some people think gaming addictions aren’t real, but they are. He’s as addicted to his game as alcoholics are to drinking. It’s not a hobby – it’s an addiction that is destroying our marriage.

Want to know the secret to staying clean and sober 26+ years?

Question by the3rdtom: Want to know the secret to staying clean and sober 26+ years?
For me the very first step was telling myself I really-really wanted to quit the drinking and drug world.

For those of you who are asking, “Why should I quit?” Well my friend, because the “Higher Power” wants you to have a clear mind when-ever you are doing the job here on Planet Earth He (or She) gave you the gift of life to perform. YOU are a key element to the BIG PICTURE !!! Without you, your family and friends the entire operation would fall apart.

For example: This note I’m putting on Yahoo Answers is stopping someone from putting a gun to their head right now this second. Next they will go to Church this Sunday, meet someone and have 5 kids just like me. See, if I had pulled the trigger my 5 children would not have been born.

You should start writing a book about yourself. The world need to know about you. After you have been clean and sober a bit, you also will sit down one night and write a Yahoo Answers question that will save one life. And then another and so-on. You then will realize your reason for being here… to help others in what-ever way necessary.

My name is Tom and I’ve been clean and sober since 11/5/85.

Question by abbie f: Are there any low-cost drug treatment programs in Oregon?
My family is really low on cash at the moment, and I want to help my parents by finding a low-cost drug rehab center or drug treatment program for my younger brother who has gotten himself involved in drugs. Any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by beth e
I have included links below that you can check out. One has a list of centers affiliated with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association. As far as I know, they can give grants to those who need it. You should call those centers and ask around. I hope you find a treatment center soon, and that your brother recovers form his addiction.

Question by cookie: Can an alcoholic with 10 years sobriety relapse and get back on the wagon?
My husband was completely sober for 10 years and I found him drunk out of the blue. Is is possible for him to maintain sobriety again or is he gonna lose control? He says he drank because he couldn’t sleep.
He is seeing a psychiatrist once a week and is on meds for depression and insomnia. I think he is too introverted to attend AA meetings. He gets nervous around crowds.

For Info, Testimonials & More -Click Here: www.owlsnestrecovery.com Tampa Drug Rehab This quick video will give you the best information as far as what drug rehab centers are recommended versus those that one should be cautious about. One of the best ways to find successful sobriety and a new life is to go through the free workshops listed here FREE DRUG REHAB WORKSHOPS ( located @ www.DrugRehabFlorida.me ) and view the testimonials on the site to encourage you that this rehab program can work for you. You can have a new life that is happy, joyous and free of addiction and the pain it almost always brings in life, mentally-emotionally. So if you want to have a successful drug rehab experience, we recommend that you become friends with the search engines such as google.com and youtube.com and look up our videos and website. One other recommendation is to get your questions answered by speaking with a phone counselor that has recovered from drug addiction through a process or a drug rehab that worked for them. See what they recommend after they hear you out by calling now 1-843-669-6088. Drug addiction and alcohol addiction are potentially deadly diseases that require rehab in many cases and a drug rehab that has a high success rate and not just a big name, therefore look for testimonials. Apart from the physical dependence on drugs or alcohol, there are other psychological, genetic and social factors that may play a role in the development of alcoholism and drug addiction

Question by Superdarkyoshi: what is the percent of people cured by drug rehab?
im doing LD debate, and was wondering what was the percent of people cured by drug rehab?
Please cite a reliable source.

Answer by …and the crowd goes wild!
I went to drug rehab and they always said 9/10 of you are gonna be right back here in under five years. Anyway, that’s what they told us, but the numbers can’t be that good. Especially when most everybody that goes is doing it for court, and isn’t actually planning on quitting. I don’t know what the actual stats are, do your own homework!
