May 18, 1989. In her capacity as patron of the charity Turning Point, Diana has spoken about the need for employers to try to solve the problem of alcoholism and drug addiction among their workforce. With an estimated 14 million working days lost in Britain each year because of alcohol, a growing number of firms are setting up counselling facilities for workers with drink problems. Whitbread Breweries, which hosted the charity’s conference on Thursday, is one of those firms. The Princess of Wales said everyone – parents, friends and employers should help people addicted to alcohol or drugs. Turning Point representatives said they hoped their campaign to change employers’ attitudes to alcohol and drug abuse would be given a boost by the Princess’s support

Question by : PLEASE HELP BABY INVOLVED Getting off of methadone treatment for heroin addiction.?
My boyfriend is a ex-heroin addict and has been treated with methadone for 5 years.
I recently gave birth and everyone (entire family, including him) agrees it’s time for him to move on from his past mistakes into the future with our beautiful baby girl.
I need to know how to approach him, help him because he seems to think that he can draw this detox out.
Yes cold turkey will likely give painful withdraw, (but so will gradual detox, only drawn out and shorter bits) but if he is no longer mentally addicted (is disgusted by the thought/mention of heroin) and it’s now only physical, would a stay in rehab work for the long term?
What are the most efficient ways to battle this?
If you have any resources, ideas, stories, anything, please share.
Thank you so much,
N.
Marriage wont happen until we both get our sh it straight. Unexpected pregnancies aren’t uncommon in this day and age.
I love him and he is the father of my child. I realize addiction is an illness. He is sick and needs professional help to get better. I dont want to leave him, I want to support him through this difficult time.

“A lot of our work involves dealing with various traumas. It could be a traumatic loss of a loved one; a traumatic accident…. car wreck etc.; or, it could be childhood beatings or sexual abuse. All these have profound implications because they cause so much suffering… setting someone up for addiction! And without some healing at this level it is doubtful that there will be long term or a decent quality of recovery/quality of life… at best simply being ‘dry-drunk’…. struggling day-by-day, miserable and suffering. Psychotherapy allows the person’ unconscious to be explored and the conflicts to be healed. At innercare we are very open to working at that level and do so very quickly and effectively! Thank you!”

Question by alex d: How do I explain enabling to an addict?
Someone close to me is in recovery and doing well. It’s been a month and she still has concerns about me “enabling” her.Any recovering addict or alanon member will tell you theres no way on earth to stop an addict once they get the urge strong enough. The only option is to remove yourself from them and the situation. Will she understand this herself with more clean time and a clear head?

Best answer:

Answer by don r
There are other options than simply removing yourself from an addict demonstrating relapse signs, and if you are part of the recovering person’s support to get and stay clean, abandonment just placates their delusion of hopelessness. When you are not supportive of their recovery, whether it is in rejecting any of the protections they need because it isn’t your problem, you may have to go away and take your risks to their recovery away with you.

The craving urge, when not fed, will subside after a brief aggravation, when the recovering person’s environment remains positive toward their recovery. If your friend fears that you are an enabler to their addiction and you aren’t, time together will win against the fear.

One month clean is a milestone in the process, but by no means a complete barrier. The abused substance may still be in the physiology of the addict for a few months as they detox. There will be more resistance to using as the offending substance is cleared from the body and the recovering person changes their habits and clears their environment.

I just started talking to this guy and i know he used to do drugs and alcohol in the past. But he’s been clean now for a couple of years. I just don’t know what to say.. if anything about this issue. He has never brought it up with me (i found out from a friend). Idk if it’s wrong for me to talk about drinking to him. Should i just not talk about anything drug related? What would you do?

Question by forjesus: I need to know the location of a treatment center that require addicts to work to pay for their treatment.?
I am searching for an inpatient drug/alcohol treatment center/program that requires the client with no-insurance or other assistance to work a job within the treatment program itself to pay for the treatment they need. If you choose to answer please leave a website address or information on the program. Thank You!

Best answer:

Answer by freshbliss
What you are looking for are halfways or three quater houses. From what I know personally about these – I dont know if I would recommend them. Here in Detroit, and in nearby Pontiac there are all sorts of them – and they are difficult to stay clean in because many of the residents are getting high there – that part about working only gives them a chance to a) leave the premises with b) the money that they have access to…

In either case, look in your phone book under “community mental health” – they will be able to point you in the right direction.
Good Luck
