Question by Lisa T: Has anyone tried taking Antabuse to help with alcoholism? Did it work? What were the side effects?
My husband has a serious drinking problem. I am desperate in finding something to help him stop drinking. He has tried many times but always goes right back. HELP me with any suggestions that you may have. Thanks Lisa

Answer by bmac Well, Lisa….if he wants to stop drinking, great. Antabuse is not a great idea. I understand the pain and frustration you’re having. It does have bad side effects like seizures, jaundice (liver problems-which he probably has already) and severe diarrhea and vomiting. These are usually so bad, that the person stops taking the Anatbuse. Has he gone to AA? That is the BEST thing. It is more successful than anything else he could try. And you can go to Al-Anon. It’s for the family/friends of alcoholics. It will help you so much. Even if he won’t go to AA, I highly recommend Al-Anon for you.

Pakistan is struggling with the highest number of drug addicts in the world, according to medical authorities there. Officials have said there are at least five million people using heroin, opiates, or other mind altering substances across the country. The United Nations office on drugs and crime estimates around 40 per cent of Afghanistan’s heroin and morphine goes through Pakistan, and some of that is used by the more than 600000 Pakistani opiate abusers. Nai Zindagi, or New Life in English, is the country’s biggest rehabilitation programme. Every day it helps around 22000 addicts across Pakistan. It gives clean needles to stop the spread of HIV, advises on health issues and gives addicts the chance of getting clean.
