I have been doing Methadone for three years, now I am trying to get off of it. I am ten days into it. It is the hardest thing anyone could go through. I was wondering if I use oxycontin after withdrawing from methadone for ten days will it start the withdrawals all over again.

it will start the withdrawls all over again. i am guessing that you are a opiate addict (or were one), i am also trying to get clean too! i am addicted to hydrocodone, and i’ve been clean for a day now and i am getting hot flashes and crazy cravings. let’s try to fight the temptation and stay off the pills. i wish you all the luck in the world!!

Oxycontin is a highly addictive drug. As a substance abuser you should be wary of having anything to do at all with oxycontin. Your experience with methadone should have taught you that it’s not pleasant to be addicted to a drug, any drug.
Using another drug as a crutch while you try to kick methadone doesn’t really make sense. Changing the dependency on a drug for another doesn’t eliminate the dependency, and all the health risks that drug use entails.
Instead of looking for new drugs to try, try changing your attitude towards drugs and put a stop to your “junkie” way of thinking.

One of the main causes of death in narcotic addicts is to restart a narcotic after withdrawal. The reason is that they have lost alot of tolerance and start with a lethal dose, which in their past they had no problem tolerating. So, if your going back to the habit then use too little rather than too much.

If you have been on methadone for 3yrs then you SHOULD NOT DETOX COLD TURKEY because it can kill you! Methadone should be weaned off of slowly and the slower the better. The previous post was correct about using an opiate after being without. You may relieve the pain with another opiate but you will become re addicted much faser and yes have withdrawals again. Go to a methadone clinic and have them detox you slowly or try Suboxone. Good Luck

I was on methadone for three years. I was weaned off at a clinic for a week. My friend went cold turkey. It was absolute hell for both of us, but we both made it. I don’t know the specific answer to your oxy question, but my gut tells me it won’t much matter, because when your body no longer has opiates in it’s system, it’s not gonna be happy at all and it’s gonna get ugly. Good luck. You CAN do it. I never thought I could, but I did. Also just for FYI It was about 11 days of REALLY BAD and another 2 weeks or so of just feeling like total shit. Then life starts to get better! good luck
