How long would it take to get addicted to Methadone?

ADDICTION NEWS Add comments

Please don’t give me any sarcastic or give me problems because of what I do. I don’t need anyone preaching to me or telling me I shouldn’t use drugs. I am addicted to heroin and have been for 7 months. I am trying to quit but there aren’t any recourses for detox where I live and I don’t want to take methadone for any long amounts of time. My plain is to take it for a few days to get over the worst part of withdrawals, I was thinking 3-4 days. I just want to know how many days of taking methadone it would take before I would become addicted to it. I know some people are going to want to say that it doesn’t work that way. I know people who have kicked this way so I know it gets you through the worst part of the kick. The problem is I can’t get a straight answer about how long I should take it for. If I could get a reason or reference to how you came up with your answer that would be great. Thanx.

Please whatever you do, during and afterward, get counseling, and dont forget to apologize to the people you have hurt during your drug abuse.
Maybe you could go to a nother town and get help?
Or check your self into a program? Maybe it would be better to get away from your hometown while you detox.
good luck to you, glad you want to get off the stuff

You may find a scholarly article in relation to doses here at

another article regarding methadone efficacy can be found here

a study on optimal methadone dosage information can be found here

Obviously not really sure on this stuff but these are all the references are academic articles that may give some kind of idea of a strategy. There is likely to not be a straight answer as each person is likely to have different responses to a withdrawal program.

take my word for it, leave the methadone out of it. every day u take it it will add days to your withdrawal.its only a long term solution because of the way it builds up in your system. suboxone is a lot better as far as being able to actually get off it. believe me i did what your doing 5 years ago, im still taking methadone. dont learn the hard way!
