He did two movies like that: The Morning After and The Comic
yes, the name of it is ‘The Morning After’. Good, realistic movie, and Dick Van Dyke was excellent. But I don’t think he was ‘bent on dying’. He just gave up, abandoned his family and became a skid row bum at the end.
