(part 1) New Survey Shows Teen Drug Use Goes Down

ADDICTION NEWS Comments Off

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration unveils the new National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 7. The annual survey, formerly called the “Household Survey” is the largest of its kind, and is the government’s primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco. The release of the 2005 survey is the highlight of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference that ushers in a month long observance lauding the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration today announced that current illicit drug use among youth ages 12-17 continues to decline. The rate has been moving downward from 11.6 percent using drugs in the past month in 2002 to 11.2 percent in 2003, 10.6 percent in 2004 and 9.9 percent in 2005.

Shade’s Christmas Wishlist 2009!

ADDICTION NEWS 25 Comments »

Big thanks to Vee for making her Wishlist and alerting us all to this wonderful Christmas project! :D Refer back to this video – www.youtube.com The Rules Step One #Make a video like this one. The video description should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (“I’d love an icon that’s just for me”) to medium (“I wish for _____ on DVD”) to really big (“All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.”) The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. # If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. # Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in the video description so that the holiday joy will spread. Step Two # Surf around Youtube to see who has posted their list. And now here’s the important part: # If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes someone’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use–or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free–do it. ****************************************************** MY WISHES! 1. Marina + Pheobus (and/or) Batty icons! I love getting icons! XD That way I can keep

Gay Activist Dan Cusick Memorial Tribute Video #1 of 4 Born in USA

Uncategorized Comments Off

This series of four Genuine G-Shots Tributes was prepared to honor the life and memory of adopted San Francisco’s “Angel of the Castro”. This is from someone who loved Dan very much: “Everybody’s journey is individual. If you fall in love with a boy, you fall in love with a boy. The fact that many American consider it a disease says more about them than it does about homosexuality.” ~~James Baldwin His loving sister Patti, at May 30th memorial service, talked about asking Dan to come back “home” to So. Cal., he told her that he was “home” here in San Francisco’s Castro District, and he was indeed surrounded by a lifetime of love at his beloved Castro Country Club. From Dan’s adopted “hometown” paper the Bay Area Reporter::www.aegis.org Bay Area Reporter – April 30, 2009 Liz Highleyman, liz@black-rose.com – Dan Cusick, a longtime AIDS activist and advocate for the recovery community, died Thursday, April 23, due to liver failure related to hepatitis C. He was 50. Mr. Cusick, who was on the liver transplant waiting list, died in hospice care at UCSF Parnassus Medical Center in the company of family and friends. “Dan was the ‘Angel of Castro Street,’” said fellow activist Matt Sharp. “He saved many, many people and made lives more bearable for the living because it was the right thing to do, not for himself. He’s one of those people it’s hard to imagine not being among the living and the fighting.” One of nine siblings, Mr. Cusick was born in 1959 and raised in Lakewood

OXYCONTIN, THE SIGN LANGUAGE, AND THE BLAGOJEVICH DEAL

ADDICTION NEWS 14 Comments »

Today I will deal with three issues, (1) the issue of drug addiction, in particular the OxyContin problem, (2) I will present the first problems of our economic disaster (3) and finally I will make a comment on the 6-figure book deal former Illinois Governor Blagojevich, also known as Goldfinger signed. — When researching the background of the drug addiction of certain celebrities, I came across a New York Times article of May 2007 – to which I came through a link of a law firms website reporting that three former and at that time current executives of Purdue Pharma had pled guilty to criminal charges that they had misled the FDA and physicians by not disclosing that OxyContin is addictive. OxyContin is said to be causing a sense of euphoria as it changes the chemical make-up of the brain. It may be habit-forming and should not given to someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. There seems to be a question whether oxycodone-induced brain changes can ever be repaired. — One of the victims of the Purdue cover-up of the addictive nature of oxycontin apparently was Republican spokesman and policy-maker Rush Limbaugh who several years back admitted in his radio program that he was addicted. Apparently, his admission followed his prosecution for felony doctor shopping, as reported by Law.com in May 2006. Prosecutor Roy Black finally agreed to a plea bargain that spared Limbaugh jail time under the condition that he attended an 18 months drug treatment program

STEP FIVE “———-confess with your mouth—” Ro 10: 9 “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Jas 5: 16 “Now make confession to the Lord, the God of your fathers, and do his will.” Ezr 10: 11 “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Jas 4: 6 “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” Pr 12: 22 ADMITTED TO GOD, TO OURSELVES, AND TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THE EXACT NATURE OF OUR WRONGS. The Fifth Step is the second of the spiritual tools which the addicted person must learn to use and which will be used by him for the rest of his life in recovery. It is a vital and indispensable part of the process of recovery, for it requires the verbal admission of those things about the person which he has struggled to keep secret. The admissions must be not only to himself and to God, but to another human being. It is this very fact of revealing himself to another person which teaches him humility and honesty to a degree he has never before known. It also has the cleansing effect of confession which is necessary for the freeing of the soul from the tethers of secret guilt. If this Step is not taken, the addicted person will not recover from his addiction! The Fifth Step is designed to accomplish several objectives. First, the admission of defects (wrongs) which is a spiritual requirement in order to invoke God’s help in solving these problems. Second, learning to use the process of

Middle east press criticizes Swiss referendum banning minarets in Switzerland

ADDICTION NEWS 3 Comments »

The Swiss have voted for their referendum, and the vote has decided against the building of Islamic Minarets in Switzerland. Middle Eastern press called it a racist step, while some saw the double standards the message carried along, in a country that claims to respect human rights, one of which being freedom of religion and worship. A step like this one will only escalate the already present tension between Muslim and non-Muslim countries, making the gap bigger, and the feelings of suppression more intense; A situation that the world could do without at the moment considering the great number of similar wars being fought between the two sides of the story.
