Naomi Wolf; The End of America: Tipping Point, Now! Pt8

The End of America: Tipping Point, Now! A Twelve Part docutubementary expanding the arguments made by Naomi Wolf’s book The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot. Originally I set out to spice up the video portion of her October 2007 speech, but found that current events, on a daily basis, kept fortifying her thesis and I eventually began adding more and more of these current event “Tipping Points”. Even today her prediction of the end of America comes true with every new article I read. See for yourself. Watch this video, read her book, and keep reading the news (reddit.com suggested site). Naomi explains that there are 10 steps that all democracies go through on their way to dictatorship. Same steps weather it’s from Mussolini, Hitler, Pinochet, or Stalin, and all 10 steps are underway in America. Part 1 [4:10]: Introduction to the book & blueprint. Part2 [5:56]: Teaching the blueprint at The School for the Americas. Step #1 — Invoke a terrorizing internal/external threat (and hype it). Part3 [6:44]: Words/Imagery repeated, unsupported evidence, and fake documents. Step #2 — Create a prison system outside the rule of law where torture takes place. Part4 [5:51]: Broaden definitions to use Torture and Military Tribunal on citizens. Democracy closes in successive tipping points, faster and faster. Part5 [4:46]: Courts side in favor of police who enact un-needed violence in the name of safety to crack down on liberties. Example; Florida Taser incident

Wafa Sultan: A God Who Hates – Islam’s Path to Destruction

ADDICTION NEWS 25 Comments »

Sharia – or Islamic law – is gradually working its way into public life in Islamic and non-Islamic nations around the world. In the meantime, questions linger on what Sharia is and what it means for Christians and others forced to abide by it. Jeff Hammond is a Christian who has lived and worked in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation for 35 years. “Sharia law is a legal system on the teachings of the Koran, the Sunna and the Hadith of Mohammed, applied into the community as the legal basis for life,” Hammond explained. He says Indonesian Christians are concerned about creeping Sharia law, now in place in half of the country’s 32 provinces. “It’s going from one province to another,” Hammond said. “It’s not something that’s happening all at once, but step by step…” For instance, even Christian school girls are forced to cover their heads in Padang province. Elsewhere in Indonesia, children attending public schools are required to learn the Koran. In Indonesia’s Bandeh Aceh province, Shariah police make nightly patrols to ensure that unmarried or non-related couples are not seen together in public. “Christians are very concerned, not only because of what is happening here in Indonesia. They also see reports that are coming from other countries,” Hammond said. Such countries include the Islamic nations like Somalia where devotion to Sharia law caused vigilantes to behead a 25-year-old aid worker for converting from Islam to Christianity. There is also Iran

The Impact of Negative Cultural Images of Alcohol

[In response to Hans Olav Fekjær]

When one considers statements like, "The familiarity of alcoholic beverages in our daily lives should not be allowed to blind us to the fact that alcohol is not an ordinary commodity, but one which carries with it extraordinary rates of social and health harm" (p. 218, summary of ECAS Report "Alcohol in Postwar Europe"), what sort of image does that convey to you, Hans? Sort of negative? Do you feel such images are more commonplace – more inbred almost – in some parts of the world, some parts of Europe, than in others?

When one reads repeated medical epidemiologic findings that regular drinkers (of all forms of alcohol, although more especially wine) have lower obesity (as well as heart disease) rates, does that conflict with "extraordinary rates of social and health harm" caused by alcohol? – just as in the report preceding that comment, alcohol consumption Europe-wide was inversely correlated with alcohol-related mortality, and most especially with social misconduct and harm.*

But, here’s the irony. The image conveyed of alcohol as a demonic substance is associated with the worst harms! As Allaman describes the image of alcohol in a separate summary to the ECAS document, "In the northern countries, alcohol is described as a psychotropic agent. It helps one to perform, maintains a Bacchic and heroic approach, and elates the Self. . . .It has to do with the issue of control and with its opposite – ‘discontrol’ or transgression."

Anders has attempted to account for why, as alcohol controls have been loosened in Scandinavia, there have not been corresponding increases in consumption, but rather declines, along with a self-reported decline in problems not found in a control region where policies affecting supply were not eased. What if, in a pan-European culture, positive images and associations with alcohol, like those Allaman goes on to describe for wine in Italy, spread to regions where they are not indigenous? And what it this reduces alcohol problems?

Loosen your mind up, Hans, and contemplate this possibility. It would help to explain three sets (medical epidemiology, cross-cultural – i.e., ECAS – results, an incremental shift in Nordic drinking habits) of otherwise inexplicable data.

* Table 6.6: Alcohol-related mortality per 100,000 (men): Northern Europe: 17.7, Central Europe 6.9, Southern Europe 3.0
Table 5.6: Drinkers experiencing at least one harmful consequence past year: Finland, 47%, Sweden 36%, France 27%, Italy 18%

Dr. Anwar Jeewa: Ibogaine Cure of Heroin Addiction

ADDICTION NEWS 2 Comments »

Anwar Jeewa of Minds Alive clinic in South Africa describes curing heroin addiction with a single dosing of Ibogaine, derived from the bark of the root of an African plant, Tabernanthe Iboga, returning patients to their pre-addictive state in hours! Then some weeks in his clinic are devoted to helping former addicts psychologically to make wiser choices. Ibogaine treatment is currently illegal in the US, apparently the result of corruption within the national drug abuse agency NIDA that originally agreed to fund study of Ibogaine and then backed off without good reason. camera: Joe Friendly

FF6 – Low Level Game Part X: Atma Weapon

ADDICTION NEWS 25 Comments »

Quite possibly the best battle I’ve ever recorded. Atma Weapon possesses many moves that are equal to either instant or slow death to a low level party. Getting to him and witnessing that is one of the reasons to play a low level game in FF3/6. You will lose uncountable times, but you will enjoy every last moment of the experience. Before I won I had been fighting him non-stop for three hours. My hands were slightly shaking, my brain was lagging behind the situation in the battle and I was about as tired as people tend to get tired while playing their favourite game. So, what should one fear from Atma Weapon? His normal physical moves knock out anyone but Gau in a single hit, making HP recovery unnecessary. Full Power instantly ko’s any party member it hits. Flare and Bio pose no risk, because we have made a point to wear Wall Rings. Quake only recovers our HP due to our awesome three sets of Gaia Gear. Fire2 is also reflected, and neither W Wind nor Quartr are able to KO anyone. However, there are moves that ruin whatever success you’ve hade before you see them. Meteo destroys everyone. A full-party Blaze kills everyone but Gau, and leaving him alone on auto-pilot raging Aspik is delaying the inevitable loss. Finally, Mind Blast inflicts random 2 status effects on each party member. You either get lucky with it or it is fatal. The battle started surprisingly fortunate. I made a couple mistakes in the beginning because I had been trying to beat him for a few hours without
