most common would be liver disease, and how each person shows symptoms for that is different. How long it takes is also individual, no two people are the same.

  2. Ray Says:

falling down sindrome is the most common symptom

Cirrhosis of the liver and there is no way to predict how long it will take. It is not a disease but many alcoholics end up homeless.

Liver disease, Cirrhosis of the liver, alcoholic hepatitis, fatty liver. Those are caused from years of drinking. More alcohol intake means that breathing and reflexes will also be impaired. Heavy social drinking may also cause brain atrophy. Drinking on a hot day also causes the risk of dehydration.

Alcoholism itself is a disease recognized by the American Medical Assoc. Symptoms do not occur in all alcoholics and do not occur in any particular order.

Some physical manifestations are as follows:

Damage the nervous system and destroys brain cells sometimes resulting in what is called Korsakoff’s syndrome (“wet-brain”).

    Cirrhosis of the liver

Alcohol abuse causes infection and chronic inflammation.
Inflammation of the stomach (gastritis), ulceration, pancreatitis.

    Malnutrition

Cardiovascular problems (high blood pressure, cardiomyopathy, increased risk of heart failure or stroke).

Sexual problems such as erectile dysfunction is common in men.

Cancer of the esophagus, larynx, colon and the liver.

    Diabetes

There would be some difficulty in defining the most “common” effect of alcoholism. Many would obviously state its the Liver.
I have seen many alcoholics with some liver damage, but not as much as others. However, the effect on the Liver can be damaging, and there is NO way to determine how long a person would need to be drinking.
Some, maybe for only a few months, others many years.
The Pancreas, however can become affected by long term drinking, and result in fatal outcomes.
The Heart can often be affected by long term drinking.
However, when we say “long term” as against say >>”short term”
it is highly reliant on the person themselves..their build..their genetic makeup, their personality, their being.
I mean, the TRUE alcoholic is affected by ONE drink, NOT many.
Although alcohol is destroyed by heat..say in cooking, I have seen people eating a fruit cake, that has been made with alcohol (perhaps a little brandy)..get drunk >>IMMEDIATELY.

Your Question is very difficult to define in medical terms.
I am sure that MANY will define it in “everyday” known terms.
That is >>whats generally accepted as being a disease caused by alcohol.
Medically though..the range is very broad.
AND, there ARE other parts of the Body affected by Alcohol that would not generally be known as “everyday” common diseases from alcohol.
