Most recently it was discovered that 1 drink per day helped prevent dementia in elderly people. This would not be considered alcoholism. One beer a night will not hurt you, but if you require it to relax or wind down, you could be addicted. Any alcohol will affect the liver, but with the quantity you are taking in, it should not have detrimental effects. My father in law is an alcoholic, for 40+ years. He cannot function without a drink in his hand. He starts at 9am and doesn't quit until he goes to bed. If he were to try and quit, he would go into shock and go thru the horrible withdrawals. Maybe next time you have a doctor's appointment ask your doctor what he thinks. If you were an alcoholic you wouldn't just be having one drink a day and you wouldn't be able to go a night without one.
