Someone I know had an employee who showed up at work drunk. It would make sense to fire them. He was told he could not fire the employee since there was a possibility the employee was an alcoholic and alcoholism is a disability you cannot be fired over.
Thoughts?

huh. i never heard of that. i know people get addicted & abuse it. addiction & abuse is not a disability!!!

i do think that alcoholism is a disease but being a alcoholic is not the same as alcoholism
and either way there is still absolutly no reason why he couldnt fire the guy
and whoever told him he couldnt is so full of it because ppl get fired for that all the time

yes he can fire him because if he got hurt or hurt someone else they would be lieable also it must be told of a disabitly at time of employment
I don’t know about disability. But I do know that most reputable companies will try to get help for that person, before further methods are taken.
I had to fire an employee because he came in to work drunk and his job description as a cook, involves knives and very hot metals and liquids. No way was I going to endanger the rest of my crew, or myself because he’s on the sauce. He could have seriously injured himself or someone else. One of the owners fought to bring him back, but the guy had walked out on a shift (cause for immediate dismissal). No one gets rehired at this place after walking out.
