This depends on a lot of factors, first thing is that the person that says they drink 6 beers a day really drinks 12 or more.
Different people react differently to alcohol or “ETOH”. and another factor is if they have had hepatitis expecially hepatitis C. You take alcohol and add hep.c you are asking for trouble, those people get scanned every month or so and when the hepatocellular cancer shows up then you treat the cancer. Unfortunatly liver cancer has a poor prognosis.
different people will have different tolerances, those that have been drinking heavy for years that arent in liver failure probably go to detox and then rehab half of the time when they run out of money to buy their booze. The detox drugs are pretty good, and then a few weeks in rehab their liver will recover somewhat, then after the 21 day rehab they go out and drink on the way home (if they have a home)
It isnt the alcohol that causes all of the brain damage, it is the liver, you get high ammonia levels and that is what fries your brain, one day you might be fine, then next day you could be yellow and be totally disoriented sometimes for good. rendering the person a vegetable. A lot of those with liver failure have enlarged abdomens called ascites they might have 5-10 gallons in there. sometimes you can tapp it sometimes you cant.
Those that drink should not go off cold turkey, the only drug that can kill you going off of without medical help is alcohol!!! heroin, cocaine, pot, meth, you will be darn uncomfortable withdrawaling from them but it wont kill you.
Alcohol has destroyed so many lives it is un real, there is so much money that goes just to treat those being drunk, then withdraw, then rehab, then their check comes and it starts all over again. When someone is presented to an ER drunk we have to admit them, we get some guys that do this every few weeks. They are never employed and never have insurance. Sometimes their wives need a break and she just dumps them off at the ER.
The person that drinks 6 beers a day needs to examine why he does this, it might be dual diagnosis, which means they are trying to treat an underlying (and usually treatable) mental condition with booze. Others drink because they are retired and bored, others drink because they are with the buddies every evening at the bar and drink because everyone is.
Those that drink that much may have risky behaviors that may expose them to hepatitis C, I think hep C is worse than AIDS. I have seen many more die from etoh and hepc than aides.
this is probably more than what you needed to know and if we can scare the *&^%$ out of someone then cool.
6 beers a day, for so many years, it is just so individual!!!!!!!!!
A drink here or there is fine but if a person EVER had an addiction issue they shouldnt even smell the fumes of the e85 at the gas station!!
