Can anyone suggest help for alcoholism for someone with no income and hence no health insurance?
ALCOHOLISM ADDICTION Add commentsI will not consider a 12-step program.
No AA–have been to hundreds of meetings but have actually found it detrimental. Have gotten sponsors, done all the work, etc. Just find the meetings so depressing and I already suffer from depression and don’t have the money to get help for it.
AA
you need will power not insurance! stop all access at home to alcohol and never enter a bar and exercise daily
The resources available to you depend largely on where you live. If you check with your local public mental health/substance abuse agency, they may have a sliding fee scale. You can get an assessment, and possibly outpatient treatment. Don’t let inability to pay act as a barrier to getting treatment. At least go and see what they say. You may be surprised that you can afford it.
Sometimes they can even put you on a waiting list for a state run inpatient facility. The wait can be a while though, and many people want in. Because of this, you often need to show a willingness to work outpatient first. If you’re not willing to do this, then the odds of you being accepted inpatient are less, since the likelihood of inpatient being successful will be less.
You may want to check with your State’s Medicaid program.
There also may be some other governmental programs that can give you free or low cost assistance.
