My boyfriend’s father is 59 years old. He is an alcoholic, he has been unemployed for several years, and he exhibits some signs of dementia. He lives with my boyfriend who supports him, but this is becoming very difficult for my boyfriend. He does not have insurance, nor is he currently receiving any sort of assistance.
What sort of assistance is available for a person such as him? My boyfriend and I are totally clueless about this and the more we search online for info, the more confusing it gets.
Im sure it was not a illegal substance when it was first invented and Im wondering (of course for educational purpose only) about its history.
I’ve seen too many people screw up their lives with this substance and would like to gain some info on it. Knowledge is power.

If a guy drank heavily for many years, then stayed sober for many years, would his ability to impregnate a woman disappear, or be at all diminished, as a result of his years as a hard-core alcoholic? In other words, would he not have to worry about using any birth control because in his situation it was rendered unnecessary due to the negative effects of long-term drinking? And would such bad effects, if indeed they had kicked in, have been canceled out by a long period of sobriety after the drinking years?
