Drug treatment is not a simple mathematical process. It is a complex activity involving a multitude of measures to bring back normalcy in the life of an addict. Sober living is the only aim here. A good rehab centre strives hard to get the addict to the declared aim of regaining the lost sobriety and respectability.

There are many drug rehab centres around us, but their success levels vary vastly due to the differences in approach and strategies. The overall atmosphere of the asylum also plays a big role in speedy recovery. The competence of the staff also matters, and so does their attitudes. Making an addict to see reason is no mean task. It involves utmost care and understanding from everybody working on him.

Make sure that the drug rehab program run by the drug rehab centre is drug free and completely natural. Strenuous physical activities can wipe out the remains of toxins left behind in the body by drug abuse. These toxins control the receptors in the brain and never let anyone escape unless they are expunged effectively. Meditation, equine medicine, acupuncture etc are found to be excellent de-stressing agents.

Some addicts have been found to go back into addiction due to lack of after care. So always look for rehab centres that offer after discharge counselling, otherwise all your efforts for gaining sobriety would be lost in a trice.

A very good friend of mine is an alcoholic (she’s 26 years old). She has been for as long as i’ve known her and she’s been to rehab, lived in halfway houses, she’s been arrested for 2 DUI’s (this was before I knew her). Recently, the 2 year romantic relationship she was in dissolved (they are living together). This was mostly becauses of the alcoholism – she can go into rages when she drinks and has no real quality of life outside of bars/drinking. She also works in a bar.
The part where I come in (except that I desperately have wanted to help her for years and have extended support) is that now she’s accusing me having an affair with her ex-significant other. Although I am hurt, more importantly I’m scared of what these accusations represent – she’s totally paranoid (she’s shown signs of it in the past). I’m afraid years of heavy drinking have left with a mental disorder. I know I can’t commit her – or force her to get help… But I know she’ll die if she doesn’t. Any advice?
Well, it’s complicated… I am in the mental health field, and I know you can’t get help for someone against their will – she’s not NECESSARILY suicidal or homocidal, but I’d hate to see what happens if she takes a wrong turn. I guess I just wanted some support.

For one reason or another, too many of our gay brothers are turning to crystal meth. Go online and you’ll see it’s getting worse and worse. When I was in dating mode, before I met my boyfriend, I had to ask everyone I went out with if they “partied.” Over half of them did.

I’ve been there myself, and have been succesfully off it for over 4 years.

I do not believe an inanimate object like Tina is ruining our community. I beleive the choice to use it is ruining our community.
