Although considered the first step in recovery, is detox always necessary? Not always so, but in some cases withdrawing off of a drug can be fatal without a medically supervised detox. We have provided the following to help you to understand a little more about the detox process.
Alcohol Detox
Alcohol Rehab
Alcohol Addiction
There are two different types of alcohol abusers, the binge drinker and the acute daily drinker. Both of which may be late stage alcoholics, just with different patterns of abuse.
A binge drinker is someone who can go days, weeks or months without having a drink, but when he/she does drink it is usually in great excess, sometimes consuming near lethal amounts. This type of alcoholic does require a medical detox if immediately after a binge. If however, it has been over a week since his last drink, detox may not be necessary.
The acute daily drinker is someone who drinks on a daily basis. This type of alcohol absolutely requires a medically supervised detox or else may develop delusions, shaking, seizures or even death.
Detox for alcohol usually involves prescribed benzodiazipene’s (Klonopin, Xanax, Valium, etc) to help counter the seizures and anxiety; and high blood pressure medication such as Catapres.
Opiate Detox
Opiate Rehab
Opiate Addiction
Opiates include Heroin, Vicodin, Methadone, and Oxycontin. If the opiate abuser has reached the point where they are a daily (or near daily) user, then a detox is usually required. Although most opiate addicts are not usually in any medical danger during the detox or withdrawal process, a detox setting is recommended because most opiate addicts simply cannot withdraw on their own.
Although the detox process for opiates can be over within a week, generally speaking, normal sleep patterns sometimes do not return for months.
Methadone Detox
Methadone Rehab
Methadone Addiction
Although Methadone is considered an opiate, most clinics are reluctant to admit clients addicted to methadone because of the length of detox as well as the difficulty of the clients.
Benzo Detox
Benzo Rehab
Benzo Addiction
Addiction to benzodiazipene’s can be very dangerous if not detoxed in a supervised medical setting. Rapid withdrawal from benzo’s can lead to delusions, anxiety, seizures and even death. For this reason, it is imperative that anyone considering withdrawing from benzo’s seek out professional guidance.
Cocaine Detox and Crack Detox
Cocaine Rehab and Crack Rehab
Cocaine Addiction and Crack Addiction
The withdraw from cocaine or crack is usually not medically dangerous and doesn’t require a detox. Someone withdrawing from cocaine or crack can expect long sleep periods, lethargy, lowered blood pressure, heart rate and respiration.
Methamphetamine Detox
Methamphetamine Rehab
Methamphetamine Addiction
Withdrawing from meth doesn’t usually require a detox, however many clients exhibit acute psychotic symptoms as a result of their using and sometimes are admitted to a dual diagnosis or psychiatric facility to handle the delusions and paranoia. Although most meth users can safely detox on their own, some do require anti-psychotic medications because of the drug use.

[..YouTube..] bupenorphine IS methadone.
[..YouTube..] and both work.
[..YouTube..] Uh no. I am on Methadone.. which is Methadone(Symoron, Dolophine, Amidone, Methadose, etc…) Bupenorphine is Suboxone or Subutex. I, personally, think Methadone helps me stay away from heroin and opiates a lot better then Suboxone… however, it is more addictive. The feeling is better and allows me to feel more normal, where as Suboxone still made me feel withdrawal symptoms. I will probably be on Methadone for the rest of my life, so I’m not worried about getting off.
[..YouTube..] no it sure isnt.. big, huge difference from sub to methadone! read up!
[..YouTube..] This is a very good video, and suboxone is NOT the same as Methadone, yes, please get educated. Suboxone can save lives, taken properly, and used with therapy and/or meetings.
[..YouTube..] I went to one of the nicest public schools in the midwest and our administration is having to deal with almost 10 students a week coming forward with addictions to opiates. Opiates ruined the last couple years of my life but thanks to suboxone I have a new chance at life I may be on the drug for years even decades but im ready for my new life without addiction.
[..YouTube..] suboxone is garbage. they take you off of stuff that you love, but ruins your life, onto something that THEY profit off of completly and YOUR STILL ADDICTED, dr.s FAIL to tell patients of withdrawl, ive been on suboxone for a month now, thought hell im feeling allright to stop so i did, the day after i ate a handful of vicodin, and i still havent slept for 6 days now, diareah sucks, and suboxone is BULLSHIT if you wanna stop doin opiattes dont take suboxone withdrawl can last MONTHS at a time
[..YouTube..] if your looking to stop taking opiates, DONT TAKE SUBOXONE the withdrawls last way longer, there not as crazy as H or OC but liek i said before its not fun having to go through this for months at a time possibly, so man the fuck up stop eating pills wait it out a week in bed, then its all up you your mental strengh, Can I get through this?, tell your self yes i fucking can find a hobby that you didnt have when you were high that helps alot aswell
[..YouTube..] You only get withdrawals off suboxone if your an idiot and don’t taper correctly. No suboxone is not garbage. No your not still “addicted”. Addiction is when you lie cheat and steal to get your drugs. Suboxone is just like taking insulin for a diabetic. The only difference is that we are addicts instead.
[..YouTube..] if youre going to try and detox at home you have to get some vitamens and gatorade to drink for the potassium. otherwise when you start the diarrhea and pissing youre brains out you will only get sicker from dehydration and weaker to. when you go to detox they give you a i v vita pack right then and put fluids and vitamens back into youre body. it makes you feel better quicker. drinking water alone. only flushes youre body worse of much needed vitamens. try that next time. god bless.
[..YouTube..] yeah dude and look when you stopped the suboxone you took a bunch of vicodin, so your telling people to be mentally strong but you stopped taking the subs and went right back to pain pills.
[..YouTube..] I think its funny when people on here say that Methadone makes them feel more “normal”. Haha, yeah it makes you feel normal, if you’re normal is being HIGH AS FUCK which IS normal for opiate addicts, thats what we love, the nodding, pinned pupils, yall know what im talking about. I have been on everything including methadone and suboxone. Suboxone is BY FAR better for getting CLEAN, but if you just want to avoid buying street drugs and still get high, get on methadone!
[..YouTube..] Methadone gets you high as a kite, I cant even think of how many times i nodded out on that shit. Methadone is TEN times stronger than punk ass OCs or Vicodin! It is just as bad and makes you look VERY unhealthy, the ONLY difference is that it takes the delinquent behavior out of your drug use, Methadone does you no good.
[..YouTube..] Don’t get me wrong, its better than sticking needles in your arm or snorting, but if you want chemical assistnace in getting truly clean, use Suboxone. It is still a partial agonist, but it does not at all give you even half the euphoria that methadone does, and it is much healthier for you. BY THE WAY, METHADONE IS THE WORST WITHDRAWAL THAT I EVER HAD, Suboxone withdrawal is child’s play, smoke weed during the day with emetrol for nausea, & take a diazepam at night for sleep, easy as cake.
